"Supporting female to play African American or to play Latina. "

Lolwut?

Also, if they give the Joker his own universe, does that mean he is no longer in the DCU? Because that's pretty much the only good villain they have. Who will Momoa and Gadot fight?

There's an awful lot of buzz surrounding Warner Bros.' plans for a Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix and while some fans are scratching their heads over the necessity for an 80s set origin story revolving around the Clown Prince of Crime, the project definitely has some potential.

Rather young fans presumably...

at this point a movie where the execs in charge get their asses kicked would make for a much better viewing experience

MCU wanted Joaquin for Doctor Strange- he passed and said he doesn’t want to do comic movies/blockbusters. Surprised if they actually get him to sign the dotted line for this.
If this is a one-and-done deal that might make the difference to him. Signing up for Dr Strange was signing up for 4+ movies.

This new development sounds like a practical joke.

Yeah that would be my guess, plus of course the Joker role itself has already had two very highly regarded performances(and one not so much).

Again you look back to Burton's original Batman and the Joker actually meshed with an 80's style pretty well, perhaps a little different from current trends being more late 80's grime and Newjack swing than earlier 80's neon and electro as I'v imagine we'd get more of today but I can see it working.

So wait, theres 2 joker movies now...wth, chrisevanslaugh.gif

WB just tryna cash grab despite fans aware of their inconsistency

But if they do, he’s a great actor and likely would pull it off well. I think of him in The Master and that really showed me what a chameleon that dude can be.

That said- this is stupid. Unless they plan to drop Leto, this is real stupid.

I'm actually glad he didn't get it. Guy seems like he's to far off into his own world to stay committed to the MCU. Plus I enjoy the guy they got.

It's to the point that the new DC announcements irritate me. I was waiting for them to right the ship, now I just expect them to screw things up even worse. I can't picture this movie being anything more than mediocre at best.

Cumberbatch has been excellent in two films. Ultimately it was the right choice. Just curious what Phoenix might have done with it.

Really have a hard time thinking this would be any good. Phoenix is a great actor so maybe there’s hope.

They want a gritty crime drama they can sell with the Joker name, it's gonna end up being shit. The fact that they're still going forward with a Leto Joker movie too, is just insanity.

De Niro being eyed just screams "LOOK WE'RE MAKING A SERIOUS GANGSTER CRIME MOVIE, SEE." and if that's the case, it's just gonna feel like a Joker rip off when they isolate the story and make it grounded in reality. If they add enough comic book elements to make it feel like the Joker, it's not gonna play as a gritty crime drama.

DC is trying to have it's cake and eat it too, only it hasn't figured out what a cake is yet. And it's about to shove two rocks in it's mouth.

What is going on...
What is happing is DC/Warner brothers are keeping the DCEU as their equivalent of the light hearted, child friendly, campy Marval movies for you pussies that keep crying over collateral damage and death in superhero movies, while they make new one shot, dark and gritty DC movies not connected to the DCEU and they will be labeled as DC Dark or DC Black movies. Real men are the target demographic of these DC Dark movies. So don’t bitch about how dark the movie is since you still have your light hearted DCEU movies.

Good call, they realize they cant keep up with Marvel so they milk these cheap one offs by branding DC characters.

Fkkin lol at WB

I have no interest in getting to know/ understand/ empathize with The Joker.

how about we reboot the whole DCMU and base it all around this movie.

At this point, why the F not?

Honestly, we might as well give it a shot. They sure tried everything else.

Really? He's one of the most complex characters to graze the comic book or live action world. You don't want to know how/why he ended up where he ended up? You don't want to know about his "one bad day"?

I'm never been a massive comic reader but for me DC characters always seemed like they were just so much better suited for individual franchises/films.
