Seriously though, what the fuck is DC doing?

You want a big cinematic universe, but none of it will be connected and you're gonna have multiple versions of the same character?! Why in the world would they expect that to be successful?!

They still fully plan on using Leto's Joker in SS2 and a future Joker/Harley Quinn movie, so why the fuck would you start another Joker project with a different actor?! So kids can have different versions of Joker to like? I mean seriously, who is thinking this shit up?

DCU is really, really being poorly managed in every way possible.

That somehow makes it worse. Kinda just boggles my mind how it's pitched. I think it's one madman who can't be talked down.

"Hey I got an idea, let's go back and do a film about Joker's backstory! Kinda like how he became the crazy gangster Leto was playing."

"I love it! Let's fast-track this guys, I want a script in less than a month!"

"Damn that's not a long time but I think we can do it, should we work with Leto on it?"

"No, you know what, I want Joaquin Phoenix playing him in this. It's gonna be a different Joker entirely and we're gonna look at his backstory!"

"But... but that wasn't my idea at all."

"I know, it's my idea, now go make that fucking script and someone call Phoenix's agent."

Because none of them were playing him at the same time. How do you think a Joker origin movie would've worked with Al Pacino playing the Joker, about 6 months after The Dark Knight hit? Especilly if Ledger never died and they planned to use him in Rises?

That's essentially what they're doing here, and it really just doesn't make sense at all.

I understand what you are saying but this Joker is not connected to the DCU at all

Think of it as just a standalone
 
Did people care when Norton was dumped for Ruffalo ?

Incredible Hulk is part of the marvel universe unlike this Joker film

That's my entire point though, you can't do a stand alone with a character you've already cast and plan on using in your expanded universe. There's gonna be two Jokers. From a marketing perspective alone that's a terrible idea.

What happens if it's received 20x better than Leto's Joker, after Leto's Joker is fully involved in a Justice League movie and Suicide Squad 2? People are just gonna shit all over Leto's Joker.

I honestly just can't see the motivation to do this from a creative standpoint, from a financial standpoint, or from a long-term universe planning standpoint. It literally just doesn't make sense to do.
 
Just stop. How many people need to play the same 4 characters in the DC universe?

If we're using this comparison, it would be like them making a stand-alone Hulk film with Norton... after Avengers 2, while still planning on having Ruffalo be the Hulk in all other films.

I'm not even sure Leto is contracted into anymore Joker roles. I'd have to look that up

Can we just get " Before Batman : Alfred Origins" already!

He obviously is the most bad ass character in the whole franchise.
 
One of the best things about Joker is his lack of canon origin story. I'll be missing this.
 
DC getting desperate for that Marvel money, and desperation breeds stupidity.
