leto is a good actor who really is committing to the role, they marketed a lot of the movie around him because the fans want it

why dont they listen to their market and let him be joker with less face tattoos and gangster chains etc.
I can't understand why they committed to courting the juggalo style audience at the expense of other potential fans.

If you see the animated movie, The Killing Joke, it has a good Joker origin story.
And a hot Batgirl.

I just saw the Dark Knight Returns and was really impressed. It's a Frank Miller story and it's a lot like Robocop.
Would be cool to see it in live action.

Suicide squad was painful to watch for me haven't see ww yet.

Comic book films better than suicide squad in recent years
Kingsmen
X men days of future past
Deadpool

If you go back a bit a little, don't know if these count as recent to you
Dredd
X men first class

I'm no a marvel fan boy and find most of the recent crop of films boring ( civil war should of been avengers 3 imo) but suicide squad was trash even bvs was better.

As to the joker film I just want superhero films to slow down a bit there's too many coming out
Couldn't disagree more. The 5 films you mentioned were all below average to me.

Marvel movies are more for kids.

Suicide Squad was great.

At least it had a proper villain.

What a fucking dipshit. Anyone who believes SS was better than CW is simply trolling.

This is a moronic idea because we don't know the Jokers origin! Part of his mystique is not knowing his background. He's a force of nature. Trying to give him some stupid origin is spitting in the face of the comics.
Okay you tryhard.

Go ahead and refute the facts in this thread rather than spamming your baseless accusations.

Civil War was crap. No proper villain. The big setup to this war was a disagreement over protocol.
The fact you defend a retarded storyline makes you even more retarded, lol.

I don't give AF if your are not interested in character development. I wanna know my characters not have some broad scope guessing as to what makes them unique.

A Joker origin story is dumb as shit too. My knowledge of DC is pretty minimal and a lot comes from the Arkham games but my understanding is those games do a damn good job of following the source material for how characters came to be.

Joker, the only thing we ever really know is he was the first Red Hood and that shit went down to get him all fucked.

Gotham has kinda poked at Joker's past a bit but still.

Will Smith ruined Suicide Squad for me.

Yeah, I agree Will Smith's performance wasn't great but the movie was.

I liked the visuals much better than other comic book movies and the overall story is what made the film stand out.

They were in a tight spot. Jack had nailed down the slicked back traditional Joker and Heath had nailed down the more real world psychopath Joker. They couldn't do another incarnation of either one of those incomparable performances so they had to go for a completely different direction. I respect the effort but it was a massive swing and a miss.

Will Smith ruined Suicide Squad for me.
I thought Flagg was one of the worst protagonists in recent memory. By all accounts, he did nothing wrong and I still pulled for Deadshot to kill him the entire movie. So glad Hardy and Gyllenhall dropped that awful part.

Not sure how i feel about this.

On one hand, i want the character portrayed by Leto to die. It's just not working.

On the other hand, hold your freakin' horses, DC. You can't keep doing this. It's like they have compiled a big book of all the DC storylines, they open the book on random page every 4 months and whichever story line is on that page gets made into a live action movie. Continuity, schmontinuity. Same actors? Who cares... Reboots too early? No such thing.

My knowledge of DC is pretty minimal and a lot comes from the Arkham games

Then shut the... Wait, this is not the tone i want to use. If you don't know anything, then ask, there are people here with plenty of knowledge on this topic. Otherwise, google is your friend.

but my understanding is those games do a damn good job of following the source material for how characters came to be.

I didn't play all of the Arkham games, and it's been a while since i did, so i really can't tell. My first instinct would be to say "not quite", but nevertheless it doesn't matter bcs in the Arkham games, the origins are not as important (not do i remember them having any impact on the story of the game (or which character origins were actually specified in the full details)).

Joker, the only thing we ever really know is he was the first Red Hood and that shit went down to get him all fucked.

Not much is known about Jokers origins, apart from the Red Hood bit. That said, his origin changes based on who's writing the comic/novel (In the killing joke, e.g. he was the Red hood for a single night, with many other small time crooks taking the role (or the helmet) before him). I presume that's why Ledger's character in Dark Knight made so many different "wanna know how i got these scars" versions.

If you see the animated movie, The Killing Joke, it has a good Joker origin story.

Ugh...I've loved The Joker since watching the 60's Batman reruns and Mark Hamill's version from the Animated Series as a kids. The though of this movie scares me to death...if Jared Leto wasn't bad enough in the Harley Quinn move. How do you have an origin story for one who doesn't have a cannon origin story?

Young street rat who's into image grows up dreaming of running a crime world he's sadly aware of at a young age. Early we see him witness a brutal mob-related murder and show no emotion. He takes to the world and works his way up until he goes overboard, crosses the wrong guy, and get's an acid bath.

At first he cries uncontrollably at what's happened, then the crying gives way to manic laughter. We get a rough scene of him giving himself the joker smile. The scene fades as we assume he's descending into insanity. Cut to the boss he crossed having a meeting. He's talking with bravado, overly confident when he hears faint laughter. He get's the room silent and asks who laughed. He gets angry, demands to know and the laughter grows louder. He knows it's no one in the room so he motions everyone to get ready. The laughter hits again, we see a tape recorder stashed behind a bar and this time as the boss goes to interrupt, the entire room and building explodes. Cut to the Joker across the street taking off a suit and wig, wiping off flesh colored make-up. He stands and slowly giggles as panic ensues. He takes lipstick out of his pocket, puts it on and says "I'm gonna need a bigger challenge."

He turns to leave and bumps into a kid. The kid looks up and freezes up at the sight of his face. The Joker slowly smiles as he relishes the feeling of deformity, and asks "wanna hear something funny?"

"Bruce, what are you doing get in the car!" a concerned mother yells. The kid slowly runs away and gets into a limo as the Joker takes a look back at the destroyed building, fire and chaos. His face is a mess of make-up, ruined skin and scar tissue. The camera closes in on his growing smile as it fades to black.

That was basically a prequel idea I had after Batman ran outta steam in the 90's. I wanted a crazy Joker so when TDK came out I thought it was the greatest thing ever.

Take that, make it feel like the departed and boom.
