Welcome back Keanu Reeves. In his latest action revenge drama John Wick, the actor gives a full-throttle performance that makes it easy to believe he is completely capable of the hell he takes on. With a simple story – almost ridiculously so – this uber-violent flick takes the viewer on an intensely exciting ride. This is thrilling stuff that is sure to please action and Reeves fans in spades. This is the most entertaining Keanu Reeves action vehicle since The Matrix. John Wicks is a wild and bloody ride that hardly lets up until the final frame.

Ostensibly it's a B-grade action movie about a hitman's quest for (bloody) revenge, but in Reeves' nimble hands, it becomes a much more joyous experience. It's a comic book fantasy of how the criminal underworld works, anchored mostly by Reeves' raw charisma. Ultimately, “John Wick” isn’t about to win any awards, or redefine Keanu Reeves' career path, or even test your IQ. But as actioner with a solid delivery, style and even grace, it possesses all the right kind of B-movie pleasures.

Don’t mess with John Wick. And whatever you do, definitely don’t mess with his puppy, as a canine murder is the trigger for an incredible amount of celluloid carnage in this enjoyably silly action flick. John Wick is a brilliant B-movie that features a knockout performance from an A-lister. The universe that that’s set up is an intriguing one. The mission that Wick embarks on a compelling one. And in terms of action, drama and excitement, the film truly delivers.

John Wick is the real deal. It is a terrific action picture, filled with strong performances by a game cast, along with superb action set-pieces and a genuinely interesting world to boot. Reeves commands the screen and reminds us why he is still a genuine movie star, while the film serves as an example of successful world-building that benefits the story rather than distracting from it. With terrific action, engaging characters, and an interesting world in which said characters meet their fates, John Wick is the full package and one of the best action films of the year.

The most impressive elements of Wick — aside from the balls-out action — is the world that is built by the script by Derek Kolstad. Littered with memorable supporting performances from the likes of Lance Reddick, Ian McShane and Willem Dafoe, we’re treated to a sophisticated underworld where killers congregate at a swanky New York hotel and await orders from one of the city’s crime lords. It’s a layer of creativity beyond what is otherwise an entertaining explosion of gun violence. And then there’s the gun violence. So much gun violence. What’s I’m trying to tell you is that John Wick is a fucking blast.
