John Candy vs John Goodman - Most beloved actor?

Goodman has had a very great career as a character actor, especially in the Coen Brothers movies. But honestly you can't go wrong with either choice here, both guys have really good filmographies.
 
uncle buck planes trains and automobiles summer rental whos harry crumb and the great outdoors... why is this even a comparison..? stripes vacation fucking spaceballs?

That's not IMDB's list. That's just a list from someone who made that list at IMDB.

Candy, on the other hand, has had his great movies listed multiple times in this thread. Uncle Buck, Planes/Trains/Automobiles, Who's Harry Crumb, Spaceballs, Canadian Bacon, Wagons East, hell... his part in Home Alone was funny.

Those movies aren't all great. Who's Harry Crumb is mediocre. Uncle Buck is alright. I like those movies, but they're not what I'd call great. I haven't seen Wagons East, but looking at its ratings: 0% at rotten tomatoes with a 2.4 rating & 4.6 rating at IMDB, it makes me wonder why you'd even bother naming it. Goodman's body of work is obviously better. Only a giant can would disagree. Sherdog has a severe case of overrating the dead guy syndrome going on in this thread. Candy is more beloved, though.
 
The truth is that 95% of what Candy did sucked, except Planes, Trains and Automobiles which tops the entire career of a man who kissed Rosanne Barr's ass. Can you imagine the the horror of kissing Rosanne's ass for years? Even money grubbing shrinks would tell you to get off the couch and out of their office because they would be unable to wallow in the mire with a Rosanne ass kisser - ask Tom Arnold.

Is there something beyond the TV show I don't know about? Because simply being the second lead on a TV show doesn't really constitute as ass kissing. If it did, then anyone who's involved in a successful TV show as the second lead is an ass kisser.

He sucked up to Barr non-stop during the production of the show. She's a disgusting pig, and he had his head up her ass for the entire run of the show.
 
Think of yourself having to play a role where your romantic, love interest is Roseanne Barr and not puking. Take 32 - John you have to kiss Roseanne again the lighting wasn't quite right. John take the noose off and get down from the chair. No, you don't have a stunt double. You have to open mouth kiss her again because you have no honor and will whore yourself out to the worst abominations for money.
 
I don't disagree with you about Barr being disgusting. I do actually really like that show, but I admit seeing her and thinking "good god, who could be attracted to that!"

But I still don't see how Goodman showing up and doing his job well is ass kissing. Where did you hear that and what exactly did he do (as far as ass kissing) beyond anyone else?

I've heard nothing but good stories about him from people who've worked with him. For example, Kevin Smith talked about how he couldn't afford to pay Goodman for a role, but Goodman did the role anyway and gave it his all. Smith said Goodman was a fantastic person and overall great human being. Very pleasant to work with.

Goodman by miles and miles and miles and miles. This is only slightly closer than the Bill Murray vs. Chevy Chase thread.

John Candy was a leading man where Goodman is more of a support actor, however Goodman's roles sometimes outshine the starring role. Overall I enjoy the movies that John Goodman was in to the John Candy one's . I am not really a huge fan of John Candy movies , they are watchable but it is not like something where I would feel a need to own them.

This is why cans shouldn't make comments such as this. There are a number of actors who can beat that line up and by a big margin.
