Joe Schilling sucker punching drunk guy

The guy didn't even swing though, he didn't even have a close fist to indicate that he was winding up to throw a punch. He had a minor flex and if you watch it in slow motion, by the time he is punched he clearly pulled back.

he doesn't have to swing. balboa was gesturing (faking) like he was going to swing. You can clearly see with his feet and and his chest he was posturing as if he's going to throw a punch. Combine that with him calling Schilling over while Shilling was walking away, and the whole weird thing about balboa at schilling's table earlier and you have a classic case of corroborating evidence that warrants self-defense.

Maybe the previous interaction or something you can't see from the angle in the video prompted the overaction from Joe, but I wonder how other fighters see it.

If Joe has another fight, I could see his opponent using the video to taunt him. Would be funny, to see his opponent come out wearing a shirt with Balboa written on it.
'Now you knocked him down, why don't you try knocking me down'

That's a step to get cracked twice into unconsciousness by a pro kickboxer and MMA fighter?

The guy was drunk. He never did anything to warrant what Joe did.

Not saying anything about his legal rights, just stating that someone who is threatened doesn't walk directly toward the threat, let alone one who just happens to specialize in unarmed combat.

Ah, well, on the state to prove that he wasn't threatened, or, what he did while threatened was unreasonable.

I think there's a delineation of what the guy could chew from Joe (being a professional) and what the guy was biting off. A clear difference in what Joe could legally do (throw 1-2 punches after the guy postures in the manner he did) vs what Joe probably should have done to begin with just as a decent guy who knows he can fuck someone up.

he doesn't have to walk back to confront him.he stopped turned around and stayed where he is then that is standing your ground. The moment he walked back to balboa he negates it.
I dont think you understand what the word “threat” actually means. Balboa acting hostile toward Joe by definition is a threat.

Just because Joe wins 10/10 doesn't change the fact Balboa wasn’t posing a threat.

Wow this thread still alive??Sherdog is sometimes weird as F..k.. and thats why I still hang out here after all those years

Gotta love seeing sherdoggers rejoicing in fighters getting in trouble and being bummed when these same fighters manage to avoid getting the penalty they think they deserve

Correction: didn't have a legal obligation to retreat.

A lot of this conjecture is just anti-individual rights. Prizefighters have the same protections of the law as the rest of us, not less or more.

Hence why the law is fucking stupid. Americans wonder why their country is self destructing. There is no developed country in the world with worse laws, or judicial system than the states. A major part of the problem is water heads in this thread that think something like a "stand your ground" law makes sense. You're an absolute beta virgin if you think an MMA fighter should be allowed to hit a drunk person due to "acting aggressively near them", or the George Zimmerman case. The rest of the world laughs at your nonsense. Your entire legal and legislative system is broken, and retards like yourself are the problem.

Probably because he just recently got off the trial right.

Also, I think people need to sort of define what 'sucker punching' is... from the video and what people said... the guy was goading him, and he went back and squared up... that's not a sucker punch; it was implied a fight was about to happen

There was absolutely no reason for Joe to approach him in the first place, and in such an aggressive manner. If Joe really felt threatened, he could have just pushed him, or taken a step back.

Joe was looking for trouble. That's very clear.
