Sherdog is filled to the gills with Gane fans. But they're conflicted, because they don't like agreeing with Joe Rogan.

Gane doesn't strike me as lightning fast. Guys like Daukaus and Aspinall provably have faster hands. Fedor too.

He is quite fast, but most of all he is agile with excellent balance and spatial awareness. And he is also unpredictable and creative.

Even if it's true, it doesn't matter that much. They haven't trained together for years, so it must be a long time ago. Besides, sparring is not the same as fighting. Cody KOd TJ, look what happened in the fight.

I think Gane is more like GSP or (to a lesser degree) Edgar than he is like Thompson. He mixes up his strikes and grappling, sets stuff up, feints amd moves. He is definitely levels above a dude like Lewis who is powerful, but see-through in terms of his striking. Whether we're in a "Gane Era" or not remains to be seen, but I do agree that it would be good to see the HW division try to rise to his level.
 
The difference in foot speed between Francis compared to Lewis and Volkov is insane. He also showed a really fast and powerful low kick in the second Stipe fight, and can stiffen anyone by just touching them. Its not like Gane is going to be able to commit to his strikes the same way he did in his other fights, all Francis has to do is time one exchange and Gane is taking a nap.

The simple fact that the people here don’t acknowledge that ciryl and Francis are the most impressive fighters of the decade ( especially ciryl ) is mind blowing , people are still all over prime Cain , prime fedor era , wake up ! If ciryl had competed with his skillsets back then he would had mauled them. Ciryl is a generational born hw with exceptional skills , let’s enjoy the art as long as we are able to.
 
How is Cryil Gane impressive? He's literally just bouncing and lunging in and out on some outta shape or boomer tier fighters. That big would crumble under the magnificent All American Chris Daukas.

They’re pretty different and we’ll have to see.

Francis isn’t a *bad* fighter from a skills standpoint but he’s not a standout. He’s in a division that can have bigger size gaps than the others and he takes max advantage of it by being huge and powerful. (You’ll never see a fight in another division where one guy is anywhere near as outsized as Stipe was for example). He is an exceptional puncher too of course and fast for his size. Even if he stopped now he’s one of the most notable HWs ever but it doesn’t seem fair to call him the most impressive fighter of the decade when he lost to Stipe. Gotta at a minimum say it is competitive.

Gane clearly possesses the potential to be among the GOATs. Won’t ever suddenly look hopelessly undersized when a dominant big man comes along the way Randy and Mir did when Brock arrived or Stipe and Cormier do now. But let’s see how it goes. Gane was good but a bit meh in his tests against ranked opponents prior to Lewis, and Lewis is not good. Sensational display of skill and nice to see a bit of power. But let’s see how the next couple of years unfold.
 
Rogan goes overboard all the time. I don’t find his MMA opinionsparticularly interesting at this point.
 
Gane is a competent striker fighting old bar room drunks. Derrick Lewis is just a bigger version of Tank Abbott.
