It's a moral defeat, at exactly the least appropriate time. The amount of damage Hunter has done or will do to society is minuscule. He pardoned him for a ten year period but one of the crimes Hunter was convicted of was lying on a gun form called the 4473. For reference the government processes hundreds of thousands of these and prosecutes maybe a few hundred annually.
