Media Joe Hogan trying to dismantle Yamasaki in a post-fight interview

One of them clearly did hit the back of the head and the opponent didn't turn into it or anything, so how did the ref fuck up here exactly?

Like, you don't get a pass just because you mixed in legal shots with your illegal one.
When it comes to back of the head shots this really goes against the standard in mma. There are tons of finishing sequences that see a shot or two stray to the back of the head but by and large they are ruled TKOs.

Especially in this sequence where the one shot that clearly lands to the back of the head occured at the very end and it was likely already a tko.

Either way though, this is super old. Back when Silva’s status as a prospect was real and not just a running joke on sherdog lol

Why wouldnt he be allowed? It happens in Boxing all the time.

why was a ref interviewed in the first place - just all type of weird there.

Refs should be interviewed when they screw up royally.

It was awesome when Jim Gray put Russell Mora on the spot after Agbeko/Mares, which was one of the most biased/corrupt officiating performances in combat sports history.

Joe wasn’t wrong here. I wish this was the norm . Make em defend choices in the spot

Jesus, that was bad. What was the aftermath?

The look Jim gave Mora at the end "you're way off"

joe rogan should not question the disciple of just bleed god that is yamasaki, disrespectful.

I did not know that erick silva suffered from heart attack and therefore retired form mma... Damn...

The commentary team usually are very critical of bad reffing even as its going on,or will mention their history of bad reffing in the past. Even judges past scores for good or ill are brought up sometimes.

Absolutely nothing happened to Mora. The Nevada Commission made excuses for him and covered his ass.

He still officiates major fights to this day.

Mares beat Agbeko in a rematch where he fought clean, which made his performance in the first fight look even more ridiculous.

The fact that Mares is a very well respected ex-fighter and doesn't have a reputation for being dirty when he landed literally dozens of low blows in several of his biggest fights is kind of mind-boggling to me.

Disgusting!

And you think that justifies the DQ?

One of the shittiest calls by Yamasaki, and that's saying something.

Most refs have their share of bad calls but they usually improve, like Big Dan had some BAD calls in his first year in the UFC, but Yamasaki is the only ref that seemed to get worse the longer he was in the UFC.

One of the ballsiest moves Dana White ever did was demand for the states athletic commissions to remove Yamasaki from consideration to ever referee any more UFC events, and all major MMA orgs followed suit.

He was that fucking bad.

It was very random moment. Seemed like more of point making by Yamasaki than anything else. Nobody was getting dqd during that time and it was pretty clear Silva was the better man. Seemed like a unneeded hazzle to dq him because of one misplaced shot.

Interestingly Pfater would go to lose a fight to Marcus "the prospect"Lavesseur. A name you rarely see mentioned eh? Marcus only ufc fights were against Prater and controversial figures Abel Trujillo and Cody McKenzie.

If you dont know. Now you know.

I mean the ref was right. It did perry off the glove causing the punch to go lower. But I'm not sure how high it would've been if it didn't go off the glove. Also props to the ref for taking that beating on TV like a champ from ol Jimmy
