Remember when UFC found out Stipe was a firefighter and thought it was a good idea to use it as promo... I swear our sport is such a shitshow cant take it seriously.
Nobody cares that you don’t take it seriously or care that stipe still wants to be a firefighter.

It goes well beyond our sport. America and Americans almost go out of their way to bask in and celebrate shitty stuff lol.

What's his health insurance plan like at Walgreens?

Absolutely shit. They are not a health insurance company. And unless hes a pharmacist. Hes on a shit plan. I work in health insurance and can almost tell which companies offer good insurance and ones that dont depenfing on the position your work in. Lol

Everyone pays taxes. Not sure why people bring in paying taxes when discussing salaries and pay.

Probably because when bringing up pay, someone always says "so and so made 100k in just a few weeks..." As if they got to put the whole roll in their back pocket without paying taxes or any expenses.

Don’t most people compare pay to other salaries where they all pay taxes?

I just hope he treats customers and co-workers better than he treats sparring partners.

This reminds me that Glen Johnson was a full time construction worker when he KO'd RJJ or something to that extent. Maybe he was a foreman, I can't imagine bricklaying for 8 hours then hitting the heavy bag every day.

Not on Sherdog. You really think all the people on here pay taxes? :)

I don't. And honestly i don't care. By the time i am 65 there will be no Social Security left thanks to Trump. That said, My wife has been putting in for 25 years and counting. We will see if she ever gets a dime when she is 65, i highly doubt it.
Anyway, this belongs in the war room.

So we could go into Walgreens and get his autograph!? Which Walgreens is he working at? I’m gonna go on a non-essential road trip.

lol you are acting like all of that goes into his pocket
of course not. With taxes and management fees, training costs etc... But he still takes home a pretty chunk. Theres guys in MMA that are surviving that make much less than that annually. I assume a manager at Walgreens makes less than 50k a year. After Joaquins last 2 performances, Im sure he negotiated a new contract for somewhere in the 20/20-30/30 range.

I've been saying for years that these aren't professional athletes, 95% of MMA fighters are "semi-professional"

Pro in MMA is just a way to distinguish/DQ you from amateur status.

Fans cry about pay but this isn't specific to the UFC. Alot of pro leagues have medicore D-league/practice squad payouts and most of these sports are 5x more profitable then UFC.........
No they aren’t. Name all these D league sports that are making more then the UFC

The ufc has gotten away with low payouts because it owns a monopsony on fighters, not because there is no money in mma.

This is only partially true. Team sports where your an employee and have a union ? (aka not the UFC) Yes.

Independant contractor where you paid commission ? (aka UFC) Then No. ATP tennis pays less than 20% and has a higher talent pool. PGA some years is under 30% and that number is about to go down once they re-structure the TV deal that's about to expire

In this context (entry level fighter on 1st contract) yes. D-league and practice squad in 90% of sports has a higher talent pool and more previous exposure than most UFC fighters......

Also medicore was in response to payout and not talent, 90% of these d-league players have 10x the talent as a generic prelim ufc fighter
Good points. Don't think I agree on the last one, although I'm sure it's true in many instances. An apples/oranges issue.

What gives them a monopsony?

Free baby wipes?

And the story unravels itself....

Not really a big deal. Lots of fighters work a regular job and then train for a few hours at night. If you’re training over 2-3 hours a day you’re going to be over trained and will get injured easier.
Yeah that makes it ok for the UFC to fuck the contractors over on pay.
