Jiu-jitsu in Batman Begins?

Just rewatched this movie a few moments ago and i couldnt stop thinking about how ras al gul told bruce wayne that he was going to learn jiujitsu in the league of shadows... ive never seen batman pull off a jiujitsu move ever, actually he used wrestling once against bane when he took him down with the double leg but bane inmediately reversed the position with a headbutt wich would be embarrasing for every bjj practicioner out there.

Not trolling, im just a big batman fan and this got my attention really bad.

Also, soon ill be working on the 2 batman vs bane fights, and ill make a breakdown with gifs lol.

I recall the scene you are talking about and watched the movie recently.

What I took from it is that Bruce Wayne already had some Martial Arts training and Ras Al Ghul was identifying the fighting styles he was using as they fought including Jiu-Jitsu. The implication was that Ninjutsu was superior to anything in his current arsenal and that he had to think and train like a Ninja to become a truly effective fighter.

That was the case. Bruce starts out with tiger then gets owned. Bruce then transitions to jiujitsu(never specifies japanese or brazilian) and finally goes for panther style but gets owned as well.

Bingo. He's instantly identifying each style that Wayne tries against him, and then countering them to show that his style is superior.

In the comics, Batman is an expert in almost every martial art known to man, and is considered to be the finest martial artist in the DC Universe.

Big thanks to whoever linked the Dark Knight Returns clip. Hadn't seen that yet.

Indeed.

And after Bruce gets owned while using panther Ras says,

"You're skilled, but this is not a dance."

So Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins had been doing some training on his own before he got involved with the League of Shadows.

In fact he met Ras Al Ghul in prison after being punished for beating up other prisoners who were trying to bully him, "for practice."

I never read the comics but I watched Batman the Animated Series as a child.

One of my favorite episodes was "Night of the Ninja" where Batman fights an old rival from the Martial Arts school in Japan where he trained as a younger man. In the episodes "Night of the Ninja" and "Day of the Samurai" they show that Bruce's master taught his students several Martial Arts techniques that can be identified with Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. In the movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Bruce Wayne is practicing kata in his backyard. His girlfriend asks him what he is doing and he says he is practicing Jiu-Jitsu. She responds to him with a joke saying "gazoontite" implying that she thought he sneezed. Bruce Wayne says, "Jiu-Jitsu is no joke. It takes many years to master."

David Goyer wrote the screenplay for Batman Begins. He is a serious comic book fan. He also wrote the screenplays for the Blade Trilogy.

During the commentary for Blade II Goyer talks to Wesley Snipes about his Martial Arts background. I got the impression that Goyer had some knowledge and interest in Martial Arts. Batman always seemed like a Ninja to me so I think depicting Batman training in Ninjutsu was a good move. I think the very mention of Jiu-Jitsu was a nod to Martial Artists and fans of the Martial Arts that Goyer aimed to make Batman's back story deeper than a superhero running around in tights beating people up. He's a master of many trades including advanced Martial Arts.

so by that you mean that the batman series lack good choreography when it comes to fighting?, i was very excited in both bane fights specially when bane pulls off that reversed superman punch that drops batman followed by the soccer kick to the body.

0/10

"Jiu Jitsu is no joke. It takes years to master!"

Yeah Bruce, especially when you decide to do karate katas instread.:icon_neut

Bruce redeems himself with the nice kami basami to kesa gatame/surprise sex takedown though!:P

Cassandra Cain still owns him (and has owned him in comics) in martial arts. she (at least for the first years) didnt know how to read, write or even talk(!), but she was trained in martial arts since she was a child and has an ability(back then it was considered due to too much training, but now its been confirmed as a small-ish superpower) to inherently predict all moves an opponent makes before he even thinks of them. her father even shot her legs sometimes to see if she winces at the pain as part of the training. she realy "sacrificed a lot to get at the top" :P i guess Bats is lucky she became part of the Bat-family.

also, i agree with Nolan's fight scenes. they suck.

bloody elbow did a few articles on the martial arts batman used. iirc japanese jiu-jitsu was one of them.

did bruce wayne not RNC harvey dent in the dark knight??

go to home depot and buy a 10' roll of 1" flex hose, then attach that to your tail pipe and lead the other end into the cab of your car and close the window just enough for the hose to fit. Take some towels and create a nice seal over the rest of the open window. Now turn on your car and rev the engine.

lol
