News Jimmy Smith was fired because he never fought for the UFC

Me too.

I think it was deliberate - he was doing great at Bellator so they took him on to sabotage. Make Jimmy burn bridges with Bellator, and keep him doing the minimum work they have to until its time to cut him loose...

Result - no more Jimmy.

Hard for him to see that one coming. Brutal.

Yeah I don't get the Bas blacklisting either. He's the best to listen to imo. But I'm pretty sure Smith was released because he was expendable. We already got a vanilla, mediocre ass company guy, Anyk.
If i remember right, Dana and Bas beef started back in Pride when Dana was managing Chuck, who failed miserably in the Middle Weight Tournament

I really like Jimmy Smith, but they're just doing what all the other sports organizations do, hire ex players

Not to mention he isn't the most charismatic guy in the world, he's great for hardcores like me, but to the average fan he is a boring, generic version of Rogan

I wish they would bring in Bas for an event. Like a guest spot on fight week PPV for one fight. Do more things like that. Just every now and then.
i have been watching since the beginning. Every organization so I have heard my fair share of awesome and crappy commentators. there are few that are worse than Bas when behind the booth. He sounds like an idiot, his banter is horrible and he tries to be funny which he never is. As a fighter, one of the baddest to ever walk the planet. Mitch Chilson's growling voice is the most annoying too listen too, but his insight is better.

There i got that off my chest, i feel 100 lbs lighter

I feel like Bas' skills as a commentator have dropped more sharply than Rogan's have in recent years.

why did they bring him on in the first place then? doesn't even make sense

Couldn't have said it better. He was good, but almost every ex fighter commentating today is just as goiod or better, besides Dom,...OMG i can't listen to Dom. He sounds like he's trying to show off his knowledge when he calls fights. He has this tone of arrogance when he speaks. Not to mention, "I think McGregors trying to gas out Khabib...."

Dom has had some bad takes, but I'm a big fan of his so I love when he's on commentary. I think people say he's arrogant just because they hate short people, DC, and Bisping are arrogant pricks too, and you don't hear people hating on them.

Haha well its all a matter of opinion I just wish the UFC would involve pioneers more. Be it just for a fight every now and then on a card. I think it help keeps the history of the sport alive. The pioneers being involved. I think most of these braddah would sit for a fight for free and commentate just to be involved and interact with the fans. To be shown some repspect. There are still guys on the roster like Andrei you could bring in for heavyweight fights to add some insight. UFC just seems to be going towards professional wrestling with the production and show which is fine. I get it. But you should always maintain that link to the past to the old guard. I think it encourages the new fans to go back and looks these braddahs up to look events they were involved with up. To appreciate where the sport was and where it is today. Its about the fighters all of them from the beginning and to now. This sport is not Dana White its not Rogan its not even the UFC. So to have the old school braddahs involved even its for 5-15 minutes for an even every now and then it should be done. The personal beefs and all that should be set aside. Dana claims to care about the sport. Show it. Bring in some of them. Bas, Frank, Tito, Ken, Hoyce, Randy. The list is endless. I would much rather listen to Bas prattle along trying to be funny for 5 minutes than 3 hours of DC or Paul arguing about nonesense. At least every now and then.

The fuck? And Rogan fought? Anik fought? Sanko fought?

People pointing out that Anik never fought in the UFC clearly don't understand the difference between play-by-play and color commentators.
I was just thinking the same thing, or comparing him to Rogan. Obviously, Rogan is a little different than Jimmy fuckin Smith lol.

Jimmy Smith was one of the best commentators they ever had, very knowledgeable. Terrible at in octagon interviews but great commentator, better than most they have now

Im with you .

Let Don Frye host Q&A during fight week..

Let Bas do some back stage interviews .

Unfortunately Randy would never be back lol Dana's booty isnt recovered from that hurt .

Have Royce come on the mic whenever submissions are being attempted for one card with alot of Jitz guys on it ...

Do something to mesh the generations...

Have Carlos Newton commentate a Canadian card...

Theres lots of options
