They not only have the right, they have the responsibility to grant and revoke a license based on whether or not a licensee uses those public airwaves in a method that serves the public interest.
Want and ought have nothing to do with anything. But if you WANT to know what I WANT, no, I wouldn't want the government in control of public airwaves. I would much rather television programming be done through the private market, the way cable and streaming are. Unlike you, however, I understand that what I WANT or what I think OUGHT to be don't change what IS.
This is all moot, as I said from the beginning. Disney is bringing Kimmel back, and said in their statement why they suspended him (and it had nothing to do with the FCC). Sinclair STILL refuses to air him in their local affiliate markets, and this too has nothing to do with the FCC.
