JDSs Downfall

Yeah he doesn't fight like a bully anymore, kind of timid actually. I thought he had rediscovered himself in the Rothwell fight. Guess not.

We've never seen a fighter with a glaring weakness ever fix that weakness. Look into it.

RDA became a very good striker after coming into the UFC basically a pure BJJ guy and getting an uppercut from hell from Jeremy Stephens. Same with Werdum. He became a pretty competent striker after that embarrassing performance against Overeem where he had to resort to repeatedly flopping on his back and begging Overeem to come into his guard.

Or maybe his "problem" was that he kept taking fights in the top guys of the division, and no one wins them all. It's not like it's a steep decline, he got annihilated twice by Sea-level Cain (and spinning kicked Hunto between those blowouts), beat the crap out of Stipe, and then got knocked out by Reem. That's not that big of a deal, Reem has knocked a lot of dudes out. Then he beat a juiced up Big Ben, and got knocked out by Stipe.

I'd say his biggest downfall is that he popped. The dude's only four losses in the UFC are to Cain x2, Reem, and HW champ-mode Stipe. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

Agreed. Look at Dan Henderson's record. He has literally fought the most top level guys of any fighter in MMA history. The reality is, if you fight top guys literally every fight, you are going to lose some.

BTW, he didn't beat the crap out of Stipe though. He won but it was a good back and forth fight.

No Im not talking about USADA as a JDS fan i choose to stay ignorant and believe it was a tainted supplement
JDSs real problem is he fell in love with his boxing without a very good trainer he had great power and stalked his opponents as if they were already done but now that maybe the level is higher and the Cain miles are on him it doesnt go the same
His main problem is he constantly moves backwards or along the cage with his hands completely down and relies on head movement and chin that doesnt fly he moves straight backwards with no angles and his lead arm either straight forward or down and gets caught
I cant understand this why is his boxing coach not drilling this into him to please pit your hands up and make an angle it has literally ruined his career the last few fights
Overeem he was the most gunshy we have ever seen him and I really thought his power and speed + overeems chin made a pretty solid prediction but once again wrong and then the stipe rematch...
It was weird watching his game plan in the Cain rematches.
He was doing the common mistake of being so concerned with the takedown against a wrestler that he was leaving his striking defense wide open and was so hesitant to strike but the thing was, that I never really heard talked about was how well and how little damage he took once Cain would take him down.
He was neutralizing him well from his back and iirc was getting back to his feet
I really feel if he would have let his hands go and just trusted in his ability to once taken down neutralize the gnp he would have made it way more competitive.
All the damage he took was on the feet with hands low trying to stop the takedown and just getting battered.

His downfall was after the first minute of the second Cain fight where he went from shoving off takedowns effortlessly to backing up against the cage with his hands down. He hasnt looked the same since. Even in his wins. And it seems far more mental than physical.

I think a lot of people really dont comprehend how career/life changing a single beatdown can be, like the two he took from Cain.

not only does your brain take a fucking colossal amount of damage, but your confidence also may never recover.

Exactly its as if he worked so much on gnp defense that he forgot his roots and got beat up on the feet

Cain beat all of the fight out of Junior. It was hard to watch for me. Junior was too tough for his own good back then. Not so much now.

JDS is too tough for his own damn good.

People point out that Reem had more defeats/KOs for example but then tell me how many minutes does his destruction actually take ? it's killed or be killed it's not this real war, it's over in minutes if not seconds of actual exchanges.. while freaking JDS stayed in there and those change a fighter from mental to psychical.

The one positive thing with his suspension is this break and regroup period it can only do him good in the long run outside and inside of the cage.

JDS has been in the UFC for 10 years now. Decline is standard by this point.
People on this board seem to believe that fighters are timeless.

The guy has had a long career and taken some damage the past several years... It will take a toll on a fighter. But hoping he can hold his own for a few more years.

No matter what the steroid situation was he lost his mental edge. He may have realized he reached the peak of the mountain and it was all downhill from here. Either way he's more tentative and his body looks like he is taking shortcuts in training to what he used to do. He is a total elite HW no matter what. Some guys just lose that fire after they prove themselves.

Show me a fighter who’s ever gone through what he did in the 2nd and 3rd Cain fights and didn’t have some sort of adverse effects afterwards. I’ll wait.

his run maybe the best in history at heavyweight after fedors unbeaten run. 9 wins in a row at hw in the ufc and he was koing top guys left and right including cain in 1 minute.

It was when Steven Seagull came into the camp. That was the end for JDS.
