JDS vs. Overreem early stoppage

thought the same thing watching it live but looking back i have no issue with it

jds looked timid all fight and i think he just wouldve gotten beaten worse had it gone on longer. Reem/JDS 2 for the belt would be cool to see if they both win their next fights though (maybe a couple more wins for JDS first)
 
If you watch it - Reem is using hammerfists & just as the ref steps in he is about to unload some big punches. If the ref didn't step in and stop it JDS would have been clobbered.

You do when he's being stopped from getting up, while also being punched in the head repeatedly right after he's been knocked on his ass.
 
Seemed like a good stoppage to me, fighters have recovered from crazier things though, Hendo vs shogun for example, Hendo literally went unconscious for a second or two then recovered and went on to win the fight, Cheick Kongo vs Barry is another example of fighters taking serious damage getting dropped yet recovering
 
There are some nice counter arguments in here and i liked the screen shots. Got some fucking detectives in here. Ill accept the outcome ONLY because jds got scrambled BAD in previous fights so maybe the ref had that in consideration aswell.

A rematch will go either way
 
Slowly getting up is not intelligently defending yourself, Reem could of thrown a knee as soon as he landed to his feet. Good stoppage imo
 
In the technical sense of did he have enough of his wits about him, and could he have possibly gotten back to his feet, I guess, but due to the circumstance of having a fresh Overeem on top of him, and still pounding on him, and would have probably done a lot more long term damage if the ref let the fight continue, no.
 
I think it was early and generally I feel there is a great gap in consistency of stoppages. For me it questions legitimacy of some fights to the point I end up frustrated. This was one of those times. It's a fight, you will get hit in the head, and you will be in trouble but the whole point of the sport is to give a guy a chance to recover and fight back.
 
Thought it was early. Junior was well on his way up to his feet when the stoppage happened.

JDS was standing up when they called the fight. Ridiculous, and robbery of a former champion who has came back from worse.

I'm a JDS fan and I think the stoppage was fine.

Correct, except Overeem has a lot more power, he would have wrecked JDS even worse.

Not really. Every stoppage is different. He wasn't getting up and he could barely find the canvas before the fight was stopped. He only made it up because Overeem walked away.

Thing is he was definately standing up, so I agree dude. Similar to Rothwell getting stopped by Cain?
 
The stoppage was perfectly fine. Some refs would have let it go on more but given the horrible beatings JDS has taken in the past I am rather glad they stopped it when they did.
 
JDS may have been trying to sit up, but Overeem was landing clean shots to the brain. Without the ref jumping in, he would have landed more. Do you hate JDS? Do you want to see Reem land repeated shots to his head?
