Pharmacist here,
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a pretty weak diuretic. I would think if he was masking some banned substance he would take furosemide instead. Furosemide has quite a bit stronger diuretic effect with the added benefit that it is eliminated from the body faster than HCTZ. I don't know how to interpret these results...
I'm no expert at using them for illegal reasons though. I could be missing something...I guess slightly less side effects?
You missed the whole point: it's a masking agent. It can be used to hide other drugs. The main usage of the drug is irrelevant if the athlete uses it to hide other drugs. Intent does not matter much here, unless it's accidental contamination.I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say, no where did I say it was ok for him to cheat. All I was trying to say is that if he was to trying to cheat why use a water pill. Most people use them on a diet, but since he doesn't need to lose weight to make the cutoff it makes less sense. Like in my original post Cerrone got caught using it to try to make 155. I'm not saying cheating is ok. Just saying that cheating with a diuretic doesn't make sense. He doesn't need to lose weight. So when it's found in the test it is assumed that he was doing roids. Not saying that taking either is ok.
So since that was not why JDS was taking it I wonder why he did ...

Cerrone got caught ages ago, when USADA wasn't even near the UFC. I don't see his involvement here.
Datsik is clean90%+ of pro MMA fighters dope.
Yes, your favorite fighter probably dopes.
Kind of odd for a HW.Isn't it basically used to cut weight?
it is a diuretic medication only legally available in the USA by prescription.
But in Rio, it's mixed with dick pills you buy on the street.
apparently not, since some cheaters claimed they used tainted viagra. why would they admit to using a banned substance in the first place?I know you are joking but I have a serious question. Are drugs like Viagra (and other similar ED drugs) on the banned substance list?
I'm a Romero fan and he's the most obvious case of smart PED use in the UFC.
Anyone who thinks he's natural must have room temperature IQ.

You are being silly.
If you don't ban diuretics, fighters can just use them as masking agents with impunity.
If you need a diuretic for some reason, you can still get a therapeutic use exemption, and USADA will grant it. Hell, they even give retroactive TUEs if it can be backed up medically (see: Cyborg).
There are no reasons to take a diuretic without a TUE as a pro fighter.
JDS' only valid defence is tainted supplements.
of course, they are not using big brand names. if I am not mistaken, Andy said his was from Thailand or some shit like that.If the drug, for example Viagra, was really tainted then the pharmaceutical company that produces it would do a huge recall and it would make the news.
