Pharmacist here,

Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a pretty weak diuretic. I would think if he was masking some banned substance he would take furosemide instead. Furosemide has quite a bit stronger diuretic effect with the added benefit that it is eliminated from the body faster than HCTZ. I don't know how to interpret these results...

I'm no expert at using them for illegal reasons though. I could be missing something...I guess slightly less side effects?

The thing you have to recognize is that people will do dumb shit without knowing if it'll work or not, or without realizing the risk of being caught. People are still being busted for steroids that are detectable over a year after use. Some guys are being busted for using research chemicals with no proven benefit, whose *animal* trials were suspended because of widespread tumor growth. These guys aren't MDs, they aren't pharmacists.

It's a banned substance. You don't need to find justifications for taking it, it's forbidden. Taking steroids while in the USADA testing pool and subject to random testing doesn't make much sense either.

Exactly what I though when I read "...therefore, we are already working on analyzing...".

This or studying what kind of medication has this to claim he was taking something for the flu and didn't know it had that substance.
