Movies Jaws 4: The Revenge: A True Retrospective

Also guys, the shark going to the bahamas i heard was somewhat of a coincidence. After spending years and years in those murky and cold Amity waters, it needed a vacation as well. It just so happened that when it caught wind of the Brody brood it decided to turn its own vacation into a hunt. Poor shark never gets a break.

It’s a bad movie but not nearly as bad as some of the crap tastic shark movies that that have been made since then. Especially the ones on the old sci fi network that were released directly to tv

2 that come to my mind as exceptionally bad are Skarknado and Ghost Shark

This the one where Jaws roars like a lion? All these sequels are a blast to riff with friends. Would also recommend Cruel Jaws, which is an Italians Jaws rip-off if you just can't get enough of this garbage.

I cant take this thread seriously, seeing as Jaws is my favorite movie.

Jaws 2 isnt as good, but does the job.

3 and 4 eat shit.

The original Jaws is about as close to a flawless film as one could ever be.

I think this was a return to form for the shark. His acting was wooden as hell in part 3, but he really stepped it up a notch for this one. Treading water with about 2/3 of it's body exposed above the waterline was really impressive, he must have worked really hard in the gym to achieve this.

Not really.

I was anchored in the bay where they shot this earlier this year at west end of nassau. It's like a maximum depth of 9 feet.

As a kid, I liked it, even though I knew this movie was bullshit compared to the first, i'd still watch 1,2, and 4 all the time. 3 was just so bad, even as a kid.

Today though, I just rate the first one. The idea of a shark coming back, and these people still being in the water all the time is just so ridiculous hahahhaha
lol, funny enough, 3 is my favorite of the sequels. It's more of a B-monster movie but I do always love watching it when I get around to it. I like the setting, and the score is fantastic. And I enjoy hanging out with those characters. The shark is actually pretty spooky in a lot of the movie despite the face looking pretty terrible. I freaking LOVE the interior shots from the shark's mouth as it's biting people.

2 has the same look and feel as the first which is great, and has another great John Williams score, but overall is just so damn dull and boring from a storyline perspective I almost can't stand it. There are a couple good moments of suspense but the rest of it is a real drag.

I haven’t seen it in years but I remember the beginning where Sean? Brody gets killed as being truly terrifying/awesome.
Yeah. The opening was actually really well done. They made the water seem pretty spooky at the beginning of the movie. The way the log is stuck in the buoy and Sean shines his little light on it.... oof. Then he's reaching for it with his hook and finally the shark comes. It definitely creeped me out. Then he's sitting there at first not realizing his arm is gone.

It's too bad the rest of the movie couldn't maintain that.

Yeah Jaws 2 reminds me a lot of Halloween II in that it marries up pretty well to the original but is clearly inferior.

Ya. Jaws is an absolute classic. 10/10. Jaws 2 is a 6 at best, but seems like a classic when compared to 3. Luckilly the 4th one revived the series being a 9.2/10 film.

You can see the metal bar where the jaw hinges in its mouth.
It's the shark roar one.

The shark also teleports 1800 miles in 3 days I believe it is. People underestimate the distances down here.
Usvi is 1600 nm from most of Florida. Jamaica by water is 1800. Bahamas where they claim around 500-1300 if it's by air/sea

Martha's Vineyard to Nassau is ~1200 miles. That's a hell of a swim for the shark. The family took a direct flight from one to the other and somehow the shark knew. (I kind of dig the voodoo stuff in the book. They should have kept it for the movie. At least it would have helped make more sense of things)

I can see where the complaints come from for JAWS 3, but I genuinely like it. Next to the original it's the only one I'm actually excited to watch. Like I actually get pleasure from watching it. There's no guilt about it. lol

I enjoy watching all 4 of them, the third one has a lot going for it with the underwater kingdom, Louis Gosset Jr, parades, dolphins, Dennis Quaid, shark swimming backwards, English dude getting eaten, hooking the grenade, shark fishing at night etc. Plus it looks hilarious with the 3d stuff. Second one is a lesser version of the first but is still great, 4th one has Michael Caine dancing, Peebles bad accent, snails, shit art, banana attack, death by boat, plus it's a Christmas movie

The last time I watched The Revenge (a couple years ago) I was surprised by how into it I was. It had been probably 15 years since the previous time and I was sitting there actually enjoying myself. The ending was an abomination but I dug all the family drama and I had some fun with Ellen and Hoagie flirting.

I had hoped for the same experience with 2 but I was fighting to pay attention and even stay awake. Holy shit is it boring. When it was over I think I actually sighed with relief. It's a damn shame they didn't let the original director complete the movie, and his vision. (They fired him for Jeannot Szwarc). I think the original version would have been a lot better. Scarier and probably closer to the book.

Man I keep forgetting about that Hank Searls book, I've been meaning to grab a copy for years but never have. I'm gonna go dig one out

I do like the second movie as well though, but I can watch Roy Scheider in anything so it's always going to appeal to me. Plus I love B level monster movies in general from the 70s and 80s, so it's win win

I do get that it's kind of a non-event though, it aspires to but doesn't reach the greatness of the first one, and it doesn't have the laughs and absurdness of the last two. But it's still got Roy Scheider so that will do for me
