Can't think of one big box office hit he's been in, let alone as the lead. Suicide Squad aside (maybe).

It's more his singing and, I guess, celebrity vibe now, but his acting is critically acclaimed.

That said, some cringeworthy shit in Leto's performance as well. With a bit of fine tuning I think there's a really good performance in there

Jared Leto's JOKER Gets His Own Standalone Movie from Warner Bros.

Jared Leto’s incarnation of Batman villain The Joker, seen in 2016’s Suicide Squad, may be getting his own solo movie. Warner Bros. is in the early stages of developing with Leto a standalone movie project and is currently out to writers for a take, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Leto would star and exec produce the solo movie that is set in the Suicide Squad universe.

Squad was directed by David Ayer and featured an array of DC villains as anti-heroes. The movie, which grossed $746 million worldwide, starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Leto, among others.

This is the latest DC movie project being developed by Warners that is focusing on Joker and other villains. The studio is already developing a so-called Joker origins movie that would be directed by Todd Phillips that would potentially star Joaquin Phoenix.

At the same time, Warners is also developing several movies that would star or feature Harley Quinn, the character played by Robbie. One of those was a Joker/Quinn two-hander. Warner Bros. currently has three upcoming DC movies on the calendar — December's Aquaman, April 2019's Shazam! and November 2019's Wonder Woman 2.

Just when you thought the WB's DC Universe couldn't make any worse mistakes. His Joker is the worst in memory. They need to replace him.

Yeah his look kinda made me think whoever conceptualized the character wanted "gangster" elements, but literally just googled "new age gangsta" to come up with them.

I'm all for a good crime lord Joker who gives a mafioso vibe. But they missed so hard with Leto in Suicide Squad that I can't see this working at all.


I also rewatched the second half of BvS today, and it was worse than I remember. I don't like Affleck's Batman at all. His voice comes off so hokey, he's been completely relegated to bitch-status in this(him putting his arms up like it would do something as Doomsday geared up his laser vision made me cringe badly) and Justice League, and I honestly think he'd only make this worse.

The acting was really terrible too, I didn't notice it as much the first time, but damn. I thought the "Is she with you/I thought she was with you" was bad enough. You could feel both actors being ashamed they had to. But Luther at the end was just sooooooooooo bad.

I feel like the only chance DC has is to slow down and bring it's properties together coherently, but they've tarnished so much you gotta rule that out now. Starting from scratch is their only option.

I get that Leto is a pretty big draw and a JOKER film could probably get away with being super creative -- but hearing his antics on the SUICIDE SQUAD set makes me think he's going to make JOKER a nightmare production. He'd probably get stupid on-the-fly ideas and camp out in his trailer till they acquiesced.

I can't say I if liked Leto's Joker or not considering the little screen time and presence he had, however I thought it was an interesting spin to the character as a something of a crime lord.

But all those attempts to market Leto and his method acting was seriously cringe-inducing, a complete failure and contradictory to the character he was trying to portray. Sending used condoms and all those weird shit to his fellow cast members does not seem like anything ANY crime lord would EVER do. If anything, it sounds more like what Heath Ledger's Joker would do.

Even though those condom rumours have been denied, it did not help that WB and DC embraced it as part of their marketing efforts. And it ruined Leto's credibility in playing the Joker.

Suicide Squad was a dog and I was not a fan of how they portrayed Leto's Joker. But I seem to remember hearing that Leto himself was also pissed at the film and supposedly there was a shitload of scenes he filmed that weren't in the movie (the phrase "they shot enough that they could have made a solo Joker film out of it" sticks out in my memory).

I read this news too. If they truly had that much footage left on the cutting room floor, WB and DC would be wise to slowly release all these in parts for free in order to gauge audience acceptance of Leto's Joker and backstory, before committing to a potential abomination.

Kinda like what Ryan Reynolds did with Deadpool.
