Why Japanese ju jitsu has never been depicted in video games or Japanese anime?
Video games and cartoon are plenty of karate, kung fu, ninja, but never JJJ.
In the last years, there is some BJJ in videogames... what is your explanation?

Because it's been called judo the whole last century and they'll throw in a move or two every now and then.

I don't really watch anime but I can't really think of many video games where it would really fit in

Because grappling in a video game in unappealing. Actually, for most people its unappealing in anything compared to karate chopping and kicking people.

But JJJ is not grappling. Is a mix of strikes and throws.
There are several characters in video games that performs strikes and throws, but they are never listes as ju jitsu praticioners. Why?
For example, in Virtua Fighter videogames there is Kagemaru, a ninja, his fighting style is karate strikes and judo throws; the same of JJJ.

I just thought JJJ was a rudimentary form of submission grappling.

I'd guess it's because there are no real JJJ schools these days. Sure there are places that still teach it, but from what I've seen it's mostly overweight dudes roleplaying martial artist.

Shoot fighter tekken is a anime/manga about a JJJ father and son.

It is kind of, I actually used to take it before I foung a bjj school near me way back in the day like 10 years ago. A lot of the basics from Judo are in their and there are some things from guard and some guard passes in it. Mostly though there is a lot of small joint attacks. Really useful for cops trying to subdue someone, which is actually who taught our class. A retired NYPD cop who had a black belt in it from Japan

Bayman in Dead or Alive does a lot of leg and arm locks and JJ takedowns. There's a Judo guy in Virtua Fighter who does lots of trips and gi throws, too. I've always felt that submission styles are under represented in fighting games.

There are more characters now that use ground grappling, since MMA and BJJ is getting more popularized; But in the older days, Paul in Tekken had armbars, and subs.

Of course, but he is not listed as ju jutsu praticioner; but as karate-judo.
Video games are made in Japan or USA; it seems that in USA and Japan, JJJ has been forgotten, extinct by bjj and mma.
JJJ remains just in Europe.
On youtube there are very few jjj video; the biggest part is about bjj. I remember a jjj video, and in the comments there were sentences like: "What is this? Hapkido? Kung fu? Aikido? A mix between karate, kickboxing and bjj? It isn't ju jitsu; ju jitsu is Brazilian and it's all about ground fighting, ecc."
Very very sad!!! Ture ju jitsu is only JJJ.

In what sense is true ju jitsu only Japanese Jujitsu though? Judo is a direct evolution from JJJ, and BJJ is a step further along. They both have their roots in JJJ, but its kind of like asking why no military is employing single shot rifles today. Because guns have evolved in a clearly better direction, and so has JJJ.

Like I said in my previous post though it is not without it's merits. Any security or pliceman could use JJJ to subdue people, and it's probably better suited for that than any martial art. However in a head to head fight where two men square off with their fists up? No.

Simply... judo is a modified ju jitsu and BJJ is a modified judo; both are far from JJJ; and so the only true ju jitsu is JJJ. Judo and BJJ are derivations; but nothing to to do with JJJ.
If JJJ, judo and BJJ were the same thing, they would share the same name.
BTW I am 3rd dan in JJJ.

lol, simply an M16 is a musket. That is the point I was making. You don't need to sit here and try to educate me when I have already taken the effort in this very thread to express that. However, there is one thing wrong in your post, and it is the use of the word "modified". Judo is not "modified" JJJ, it is evolved JJJ. Same with BJJ.
