I can’t stand this guy. Vick thinks he’s some established monster at 155. His best win was against a 40 year old Francisco Trinaldo. He seems to struggle against any top 10 competition. He got KO’ed by Chiesa( I get it was at the TUF house but regardless he still lost) who’s a top 10 LW and got KOed by Dariush, who at the time was ranked in the top 10. Vick is good fighter but IMO out of the top 10 he loses to everyone.

Guy is a focking GIANT at 155.

How the hell he makes that weight at his size is beyond me.

He’s legit top 15, probably top 10 LW mainly due to his size.

He would get absolutely smashed by the top 10 guys at WW.

I honestly haven’t seen that many James Vick threads to warrant a thread calling him overrated.

How is he overrated when the UFC won't even give him a top 10 fight? he deserves it, clearly.

He's underrated if anything

I'd say he's fairly rated. Its not like people talk him up as if he's the goat, but he's also done enough to prove his place in the division. Don't act like Trinaldo wasnt a good win just because of his age. He also KO'd Joe Duffy.

The Felder fight will tell us a lot about Vick

is he even ranked? Dont see how he's overrated if he doesnt get any kind of hype from the UFC

I'd say he's really underrated, mainly because he can't get a top level fighter. I've always been impressed with him and he's always improving. Pretty well rounded and huge for the weight class. Felder would be a good win but even he isn't high rank wise which seems to play some part in match making.

He's definitely not overrated; nobody even knows who he is.

James Vick: so much to like, so much to hate ...

The truth is, the dude could be an awesome fighter. We just don't know because no one is willing to fight a 6'3" lightweight with little name value.

Vick has done his part to make people dislike him. He constantly complains, almost whining. But he does win most of the time. Very few lightweights have a UFC record like his.

Overall, it comes down to likeability, and people just don't seem to like James Vick.

The best comparison would be to Mike Chiesa, since they both came off the same season of TUF. Vick actually has a better record, and his only loss is to Dariush, who's ranked higher than Joe Lauzon, who beat Chiesa. But people like Chiesa, so the UFC gives him good fights and names.

No doubt that majority of people will be rooting for Felder, who is really likeable. And if Felder wins, Vick will go nowhere fast. But if Vick wins, he should get something like the winner of Gaethje/Iaquinta or Chiesa/Pettis.

Vick vs Hein was an insane fight. Hein nearly KO'ed him stiff twice in round 1, yet the judges still gave the round to Vick.

Hell, I didn't even know about Chiesa knocking him out, but I was able to confirm his chin is glass based off of the Dariush and now Gaethje fights. He can't take flush shots at all. He overwhelms lower level fighters with his height and reach and offensive skills, but when the punches come back on him, his chin fails him every single time. Chiesa isn't a big puncher at all either. He has ZERO (T)KO wins in 18 professional fights.

Yeah, that's a serious issue in MMA judging. In boxing, there's clear-cut criteria for how to score knockdowns. You knock a guy down once, it's 10-8. You knock a guy down twice, it's 10-7. It's kinda ridiculous how you can knock a guy down twice in one round in MMA and still lose that round. I'm not necessarily saying that knockdowns should be scored exactly the same in both sports, but at the very least they should count for more. Faber knocked Cruz down 3x in their 2nd fight and still lost a lopsided decision. In boxing, he would have won easily. We need some sort of middle ground.
