I honestly don’t understand how this would happen? Every gas or electric augur I’ve seen are really safe and easy to use. The exposed part of the shaft isn’t sharp, it’s blunt metal.

Yes. What part of that makes it cut your leg? I own an 8” and a 10” gas augur, and spend half of every winter on the ice. You’d have to be doing something really stupid or have a really shitty augur to cut your leg like that.

First off I've never done it, second that ring on the bottom covering isn't on the bottom, get your foot cought in the bottom while spinging(it's not rocket science) and have it bind. I live on the lake in Canada my family own a marine/tackle store (I might be out there more than most) I've seen ot happen twice on a leg and once through a boot.
Plus half the augers used are 50+years old.
I don't know how the fuck your little mind can't grasp this.
