Jacare's 8 fight contract

I thought he'd at least entertain a Bellator offer. Glad he's staying though

When I see a fighter sign a contract that includes so many fights, I see a fighter who is not confident about becoming a champion. Why would you sign such a long contract if you think you will be champ in 2 or 3 fights and thus be in position to negotiate a much better contract?
I think UFC uses these contracts to lock fighters in until and after retirement. Shogun and Anderson Silva are also on very long contracts if I remember right. Not sure if they were thinking that with Jacare but it is something to consider.

There's a stipulation he must fight Camozzi 5 more times. So only 3 real fights.

i know why conor signed a 8 fight contract before fighting aldo...

......because of a fighter he wasn't expecting to fight in a weight class he didn't think he'd be competing in?

At this rate, it will be more than a year before Jacare gets a title shot anyway.

Bisping vs GSP sometime this summer. So probably around July or August.

Then 6+ month turn around for Romero's shot.

Then 6+ months after that for Jacare's shot.

Jacare is getting up there in age, he's not a draw, and it will be a year before he even gets his shot which he may not even win. This is probably his last big contract.

UFC exploits poor people looking to earn a living just like any other big company. There's nothing new.

I'm glad theres people like Mcgregor out there, who have the head to put UFC in its place.

He's gonna keep crushing cans, taking no damage, and cashing cheques.

In that case, I'm glad he signed such a long contract, meaning the UFC is so committed to keeping him around.

Jacare can now save money and plan his retirement, regardless of how he performs. I don't fault him for choosing this route in an organization where popularity is king.

That is not true

They can cut him after a loss. The commitment is more on the fighter.

I would love to read one of these contracts to see if they say anything about the circumstances under which the UFC can cut a fighter. I wonder if they all have the same language, i.e. the UFC can cut a fighter at any time for any reason, or if it's different for each fighter, for example some fighters can have multiple losses before they're cut.

From the contracts that were published & from what fighters have said, the standard contract has it so a fighter can be cut after a loss. They also have moral clauses & I'm guessing that might include USADA, but not sure.
It is weird bc WME refuses to let Filthy Tom out of his contract (after a loss & USADA) but is allowing him to earn in Pro-Wrestling (which they stopped him from years ago).

Anyone else noticing that Jacare looks just a little different this fight?

Because it gives you a modicum of long-term security in a short-term career?
