What if they guaranteed a title shot in 2 or 3 fights.

When I see a fighter sign a contract that includes so many fights, I see a fighter who is not confident about becoming a champion. Why would you sign such a long contract if you think you will be champ in 2 or 3 fights and thus be in position to negotiate a much better contract?
I thought when you become champ the UFC renegotiate so that the champ gets a new deal with PPV points and champion related stuff. I thought that was standard procedure. That's what Ariel kept saying was a good thing when all these interim belts were being given out. You get more money even if you are an interim champ.
Jacare signed a new contract??
Why isn't this being talked about more on the forums? All this gossip bs and troll threads, but no one wants to talk about big news.
I'm very surprised that he signed a deal before this fight. Surely he would have gotten more with a win.
These 8-fight binding contracts. Conor's in a pool of mess because he made this same mistake, signing an 8-fight deal before fighting Aldo.
Weidman on the other hand, refused to re-up going into the Anderson Silva fight... and went from 40k to 400k in his next fight with that new contract.
But hey, sometimes it backfires too... like with Roy Nelson. Took that stipe fight on short notice and refused to sign before hand... ended up with not only less that what the UFC offered him in the new contract he turned down, but also less than what he was making in his last fight. lol. Dana hates Roy.
Its not that. Zuffa/WME would be willing to lay down serious money for elite fighters and tie them down with a long term contract so they don't get pinched. Or if only to make sure the competing promotions can't build up new stars of their own with older elite fighters on the downhill slide, like Anderson Silva who resigned with a 12 or was it 15 fight contract even after getting his leg broke. When I see a fighter sign a contract that includes so many fights, I see a fighter who is not confident about becoming a champion. If by "smarter" you mean they are using science... sureSome fighters are lasting longer because they are training smarter.
That and a lot of them have figured out not to do heavy sparring since you can find many old boxers and now mma fighters that are bad off. Some take more damage in gyms. Mexicans are notorious for that. Theres a couple mma gyms with that rep tooIf by "smarter" you mean they are using science... sure![]()

Oh I don't doubt it one bit. I want to know what some of these guys are on. I'm a fan of boxing and mma but I've seen some fighters that make me wonder. Sergio Martinez still had lightening hands in boxing, Yoel is damn near 40 and moves like a 25 year old. Yet these people are never dirty. For sure; I was a bit negative with my response, but you are right. These guys aren't beating each other senseless like they used to at chute boxe leaving them with all sorts of injuries.
I just think the science stuff allows them to mask their fading athleticism enough to keep ahead of the young guys who haven't learned all the skills yet.

That's a good point. That could have been a reason for him to sign, and I didn't think of that one
