ITT: Things that traumatized you as a child

Your dad really did do that?

Yeah, from the time I was 7 to the time I was 10.

I have a pretty good sense of humour about it now. But I have no idea what kind of person I would be if it hadn't happened.

ah k well not gonna pry into that anymore

good on ya for dealing with it though

You can pry if you want, but it's pretty boring. Drunken father with visitation every second weekend.

In the scheme of things, I was lucky. I didn't live with him full time so I did have a home in which I felt safe and protected. I couldn't sleep with my back to the door of my bedroom for years but that's resolved now. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to spend every night in a house in which you feel accessible to an uncontrolled, disgusting predator. I got regular reprieves.

My biggest problem has always been and still is the guilt of not being able to stop it. The older I get, though, the more I realize how unreasonable it is to expect that of a 7 year old. But the guilt still lingers.

Oh yeah growing up in Germany we used to have really lovely fairy tales, like the fucking STRUWWELPETER!

Mamma comes home: there Conrad stands,
And looks quite sad, and shows his hands;
"Ah!" said Mamma, "I knew he'd come
To naughty little Suck-a-Thumb."

Hahahahaha, what a shit mother, think she should have reacted a bit stronger to some bloke chopping her son's thumb off. Very creepy by the way. But it's an OOOOOOOOLD book?

Also, I'm impressed that it rhymes in English too when it was written in German... Do all words that rhyme in English rhyme in German also?

Hearing the Gunshot my brother used to kill himself in the basement of the house I lived in.

When I was 10 I was sleeping over my buddies house. His father came in the room drunk around 11pm and started screaming at his kid (my friend) and then beat the shit out of him for forgetting to take out the garbage. The mother was a sweetheart and took me and my fried back to my house. My Dad went back with her and beat the shit out of the Dad and then drove him to a clinic to dry out. He never drank again but the episode always weighed heavy on me, which is whyI made sureto never be an angry drunk.
And your dad banged your friends mom after dropping the drunk off at the clinic? I hope so. Fucking Dad is awesome, he deserves some of that poon

one 4th of July night, I was playing on my balcony at my parents apartment when some moron shot a shotgun off and got me right in the side of my head in the temple.area. my mom was 8 months pregnant with my sister and I swear she has issues with anxiety because of this incident. Doctors were able to remove the small fragment in my head and I got about an inch scar on the side of.my head. I've never really been to fond of guns.

I grew up with this too.
That and Max und Moritz

-I remember after I saw that movie tremors I was scared they were going to pop out of the ground and get me, so I would only walk on concrete and pavement.

-that scene in the peewee movie with the truck driver.

-those "scary stories to tell in the dark" illustrations

-and this other book, but damn, I can't remember anything but a vague outline of the plot.

what's your story mate?

Growing up in a very strict household, very conservative Christian, so that "you're going to hell" always got directed towards me growing up. Yeah it wasn't fun at all. What about you man?

was gonna say this.it frightened the shit out of me so much, when i had a bath if i couldnt see the bottom of it,i got out.wouldnt swim in the sea or rivers.took years to get over that

Rolls of coins, Pennywise and fanny packs on men.

I also must admit I was traumatized by finding my Dad's porn VHS's when I was 8 or 9. The playboy wet n wild one was so fuckin hot, but I wasn't sure what was happening in my mind. For the rest of the year I was in like catatonic shock by what I witnessed.

Seriously? When I was 9 I was stealing my dads vhs porn, and shooting blanks after watching it. I still remember the classic "angel buns".

I think German & English have the same language roots, so lots of words sound similar.

And a lot of the fairy tales they read to you as children actually have a dark and sexual undertone...

Living in low income housing surrounded by white trash. It's not the poverty so much, it's scary to live around really dumb, low grade people.

One of my first memories. I was 5 when I saw this. Nightmares and scared of the dark through high school

This too. I don't know why I would always watch it alone in the dark when it terrified me so much.

Trapped in a car with a giant ass moth. Still don't like them to this day.

HAHAHAHAHAHA oh my god! :icon_lol: I totally relate!

Nothing compares to the hell of having to walk through the moth house at the zoo. It's like something straight out of a horror movie. You think the moth in your car was big, these were fucking BAT SIZED moths from some fucked up parts of the world, there were about 10000 of them and they were flying straight at you from all angles... I remember one landing on my shirt, I was shaking like crazy but the fucker just refused to get off.

I ran through that moth house like it was the fucking D-Day landings.

I'll just leave this here.
