Adrenaline Dump + knock + first time trying to overcome adversity - he was out of his element and couldn't get into his game.
 
Agree with TS! It wasn't a cardio issue, he was just hurt.

Anyone whose sparred hard before knows that when you get beat up or rocked it takes a little sting out of you and you have to fight the get it back. If you're continuously taking punishment it's going to affect your "cardio."

No doubt that the punch play a major factor - that's unquestionable. But JDS was starting to breath hard before the punch. Not ultra-terribly by any means, but you could see the beginnings of it. His shoulders, chest and back were making the deep breath heaving motion, and Cain didn't let up.
