RBR Itauma v Whyte August 16th

great card, intrigued by the Adeleye and Hrgovic fight, Hrgovic is there to be hit like we saw in the Dubois fight, should be good while it lasts that one

I don’t see an upset in this fight. Adelayes experience/level of skill is gonna be a huge problem for him. He was getting easily outboxed by jeamie TKV in his last fight and needed an incompetent ref to bail him out. Hrgovic is gonna box his head off. I think it will look like wardley/huni before the KO. At least with them being HW there’s a realistic punchers chance for adelaye

Hyrgovic is also a good puncher, i just wassnt impressed with him in the dubois fight, he kind of fell apart a bit when his punches didnt have the desired effect, he obviously had a big lump in front of him hitting him though, i like the fight though, it will show us where they are both at

Hmm. According to Briggs he just heard that Itauma's been put down a couple times in the gym. It could just be a rumor. Even if it's true maybe it was when Itauma was only like 17 years old or something. He's been sparring with top level pros for several years now.

2 weeks to go for this one, Whyte is saying he expects to win, which you would expect

good fight for both guys, i just hope Whyte actually puts up a fight and isnt there for a payday

I don't see him putting up a fight but I hope I'm wrong. I think it's more likely that Itauma catches him early, probably with an uppercut which Whyte has shown he's highly susceptible to, and sparks him. Whyte's only chance as far as I'm concerned is to clip Itauma first. If he can hurt him with his left hook then the fight might unfold differently.

i'd like to think he thinks he has something to prove, a lot of people are just writing him off and i think it will be a decent test, or i hope it is

i'd like to see how Itauma looks after 5 or 6 rounds against someone who is durable, Chisora will give him that if they ever meet

I thought Whyte looked terrible in his last fight against a nobody. To me his plodding style and porous defense is tailor-made for Itauma. It would be nice to see Itauma tested but I think we'll have to wait until he steps up against fighters that pose a serious threat. So far he hasn't really had to worry about what was coming back. His explosive style will drain the tank pretty quick so it'll be interesting to see how his stamina holds up against an elite level heavyweight that can go rounds as you said. They'll have to be durable and game.

yup, i have mentioned it before, not if it was in this thread, but i can see a David haye type situation at some point, where he comes across a wily veteran who just has enough know how to last those early rounds and come on mid-late rounds

same thing happened with David Price, people may be getting excited a little bit too soon, he needs to be stepped up carefully, i heard someone talking about him fighting Parker for the WBO title if he beats Whyte, i think that would be a massive mistake at this stage in his career, and the asian bloke wants to put him in there with Usyk...absolutely mental

this is what happens when Dana White type people who know fuck all about the sport start getting involved, just totally mismatching fighters

Yeah Turki does want Usyk vs Itauma next. That and he wants AJ vs Jake Paul which is even more ridiculous. Chances are that Itauma's handlers advise him not to take it even if Turki makes him a big offer. That's the vibe I've been getting lately from Francis Warren. He's made it clear that he would like gradual steps to be taken in order to develop Itauma.

yeah, Warren was hilarious when Turki was talking about getting rid of PPVs, seems like he has been taking advice of Dana and telling him they can pay their fighters peanuts and everyone will just fall in line

purses will obviously take a big hit at some point, but we all knew that would happen, luckily for me, the UK and European boxing scene has been pretty healthy for years now, so i dont think it will have a massive impact on the scene over here, the big promoters will just take their fighters out of the equation and then Turki guy is putting on shit cards all the time if he isnt paying the fighters mega bucks

totally off topic there, may need a new thread for that one

I was definitely disappointed when Turki appointed Dana as head of his boxing operations. Like you said it's terrible for the fighters. Your scene over there is healthy. Without the British fighters we have at heavyweight today there wouldn't be any interest in the division at all. It'd be nice to see some good American talent in the division but at this point I won't hold my breath.

i think it will kill American boxing personally, the UK wil always be OK as we are a tiny country and its baked into us

I wouldn't be surprised. We don't even have much of a domestic scene here while you guys have a strong one over there. It's like its own local boxing economy.

it is, and a lot of Euro fighters move over here as well as other international guys, Itauma wasn't born in the UK, he is Slovakian, also the likes of Bakole, lots of these guys move over here because of the scene, its why you get 90k people cramming into Wembley to watch Dubois(not a massively popular fighter) V Usyk(a massively popular guy over here)

there are probably hundreds if not thousands more fighters who live here for the training and opportunities boxing in this country offers them, i think the majority of the US just hate anyone who isnt American, which is very nice and patriotic but its why you have your own sports that nobody else really cares about

Bakole & Itauma are good examples. I knew Itauma was Slovakian because I'm mostly Slovak myself.

Just say American Football :) and yeah you're spot on about Turki needing UK talent, I hope the mid and lighter weight US fighters (where we still have some talent) don't join any asinine Dana White league, this whole UBO concept goes nowhere if that happens around the world. They can stock their league with MMA rejects and call someone a world champion and it will carry the same weight as the reigning WBF or IBC champion.
