Economy It pisses me off that Liberals do not want to cut the budget AT ALL

The correct answer. The only way to get out of the hole we dug for ourselves is to continue to tax and cut (especially military/war spending).
Would agree. Believe inflation is also reduced by raising them though I'm no economist. They need to think on inflation and supply chain impact on the new budget.

I don't know about what Doge has found though they do have a website, just in payment errors on the GAO website (GAO audits), there was 236B improper payments in 2023 and 2.7T in the last 20 years. Look at how much of the DOD assets they can't locate... 1.9T in 2023. Its not just cutting the budget.. its having the right system in place so that the money we spend is accounted for properly
Why would anyone argue these points? I swear if it were anyone else but Musk, the Dems would be on board too. Well....not the dirty ones.

Yeah it's funny... he voted for Hillary in 2016, Biden in 2020... gave us the electric car for the environment, starlink so that everyone has internet... and all of a sudden because he endorsed Trump he's evil and out to destroy everything.

I just don't trust them to be doing the "cutting government waste" correctly when I know for a fact their #1 primary objective is to cut the taxes of their donors.

I don't trust them not to cut things like Social Security, Medicaid, etc.

Ahahahahaha,

What a joke this thread has proven to be as Trump and his magats in Congress push to get thru an even bigger give away to the rich pushing the deficit to set new records of debt only topping Trump's last term.

"...Mike Johnson and House Republicans on Wednesday released their budget plan, which would raise the debt ceiling by $4 trillion in order to dole out $4.5 trillion in tax cuts to the wealthy. ..." cite

All the while the magats on this forum will keep bending over and applauding Trump like seals, convincing themselves he is doing this for them.

It gets tiring that regular joe schmoe conservatives don't realize that federal tax money is paid in mostly by the wealthy and large corporations. The top 10% of earners pay 75+% of the taxes. All cuts to programs that help the regular middle class person are really about tax cuts for the upper class, trickle down economics. If you really want to know why we are running deficits, it is because the U.S. has been given massive tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations for decades. We could balance the budget if we just returned to previous tax levels.

Drastically increase taxes on the wealthy to a minimum of 90% on the upper crust, tax billionaires out of existence.

This is nuts. I don't think you understand how crazy it is or how it will not have the positive effect you think it will.

That's even besides the argument that government should acquire 90% of what someone earns.

It's been done before. After it started getting reduced, wealth inequality went up. There's data for all of this. Stop simpin, start reading

I dont think the checks and balances fail. If im wrong we can revisit. If we live in Venezuela like country then I will concede. Until then....Cheers man.

I don't understand you.

I get that you're conservative but you're willing to given President Trump and Elon Musk the benefit of the doubt on every single thing they do, even the blatantly unconstitutional things.

In the 2020 election Trump's campaign sent out deceptive requests for donations that were designed to be almost invisibly repeat transaction traps; they resulted in millions of dollars in chargebacks and are considered one of the most damaging cases of credit card fraud in American history. Just before his inauguration, Trump did a meme coin rug-pull and bilked his supporters of two billion dollars. That's no joke and it only hurt simple people who didn't see the obvious signs, it didn't hurt any investors who knew what they were doing and stayed away like it was radioactive. It only hurt true believers.

I see people posting Elon's claims without a shred of evidence, and you commenting on them like you believe them. Why? Did you learn nothing from the Twitter files? He's running the exact same playbook, making insane claims without proof, and the conservative machine leverages them as far as they can.

Checks and balances aren't going to be enough, and it's already too late. The damage his temporary freeze did is catastrophic, and more than forty thousand people all around the world have lost their jobs and are heading home. Organizations have shuttered, because they were operating on razor thin margins and couldn't survive the shock.

China is going to be happy to step in and fill the soft power vacuum this has created, and personally, I was happier with America building that international good will.

You mean the marginal tax rate? Yeah, that was 90%. You understand the difference between a marginal tax rate and an effective tax rate, right? And do you understand why they stopped doing that? And you know it did not phase out the super wealthy people from existence?

Doge is a great start.

Both parties need to get behind this. Bill Clinton, good Ole slick Willy was the last person to balance the budget.

Yes, the effective rate was about 45%, and yes, it didn't eliminate the wealthy. Thanks for making my point...?

Is it the same source that says raising the minimum wage to $20/h has absolutely no downside?

???
Youre saying you want to eliminate them from existence with this method. How was your point that it did not accomplish that?

So what you're saying is you want to bring back the marginal tax rate of 90%? And you think that will "tax billionaires out of existence"?

Billionaires, and yes I know that alone won't reduce their wealth below a billion

We've already seen what Trump can do during his fitst term.

Big difference is that the GOP is now 100% in his bad, in his first term he had a lot of relatively sane Republicans around who could so some pushback
