It kinda pisses me off how a guy like Bruce Lee gets more credit and recognition than real fighters

This idea of a "real fight" is so overdone by people that dont actually train, listen, go look up 1000 videos on worldstar of people getting into street fights, what do you see? People getting punched, kicked, slammed, choked out.... Guess what mma is... See my point? Good luck doing all that fancy shit, eye pokes, throat punches.... without understanding the range and timing that you get from years of sparring.
Selective hearing lol

Bruce was an innovator. He revolutionized martial arts.

In a way, you could even say his philosophy on fighting gave birth to MMA. He is one of the first to mix different martial arts in a time where it was frowned upon.

That being said he would get destroyed by any UFC flyweight.

Listen to this and tell me this isn't sounding like a guy shitting out of his mouth, seriously, I can't take people who worship this man seriously, they are probably more of the nerdy type and they want to believe a scrawny 4'9 skeleton can beat up an 8'3 Sherdog chad that has muscles on top of its muscles on top of other muscles only a Sherdog can attain. A Sherdog is like a pitbull but 10x the size in both width and height but with some human parts as well.

What do you not understand about what he is saying there?

It makes sense to me.

Hell his most entertaining movie was actually the one they made about his life DRAGON THE BRUCE LEE STORY.
Ill make sure never to take ya too seriously after this one

Stating he was just an actor is equally if not more retarded as claiming he would destroy anyone who walks the earth.

He was a martial artist and an actor.

He knew a lot about martial arts, he definitely knew what he was talking about when it came to martial arts. He even revolutionized martial arts.

But he would get ran over by any top 20 UFC bantamweight.

That video actually drops some beautiful knowledge that I guess you are too inept to recieve...and it applies to everything in life. Most people are afraid to be themselves, because they didnt put enough work in to find out who they really are and fulfill their potential. He is saying that he can fully express himself and there isnt hesitation or doubt in his mind about any given situation, because he has put hard work to prepare himself AS BEST HE CAN.

Many people can benefit from that, especially someone who got interested in martial arts simply by seeing one of his movies, plus its facinating to hear someone talk about his arrival atcross training philosophy in the mainstream so many years before MMA.

What was most impressive is that Bruce Lee came up with the idea of Mixed Martial Arts before MMA ever existed.
This was done at a time where martial arts were about sticking to dogma and maintaining secrets that were shrouded in mystery.

His martial arts style (Jeet Kune Do) was focused on studying all martial arts, rejecting what was useful, and keeping what works.
This is essentially what MMA is.

Bruce lee even said a quote to the effect of "A guy who’s been wrestling and boxing for a year can beat a martial artist who’s been training for 15 years."
So he even acknowledged the effectiveness of boxing and wrestling versus traditional martial arts (TMA).

The UFC didn't emerge until a generation later.
If Bruce Lee entered the UFC, he would have continue to study all martial arts and figured out what was most effective.
Bruce is a legend because he was a pioneer in a time when no one would listen to him.
A generation later, the UFC emerged and people could finally see that what Bruce Lee said was correct all along.

It is easy saying that MMA was an obvious idea in hindsight.
But it is much more difficult to preach MMA when no one else believes in it and stick to your guns.

Another aspect of Bruce Lee is that he was more interested in street fighting and the effectiveness of martial arts in a real fight.
He was very practical and had the right idea of what it meant to be in a real fight.

I have no doubt he would have done well in MMA.
If he failed his first fight, he would do all he can to improve and become a legend in the sport.
Bruce Lee's main weakness was that he was limited by the martial arts knowledge of his time.
No one else thought about mixing martial arts. So he had to do it on his own.
With the wealth of MMA knowledge and systems today, Bruce Lee would have done very well.
Whats interesting about JKD was that he originally set out to set up a system that would have everything you need, and prepare you for anything. It was during this journey that he realized what we see now in MMA. That there is no perfect style, you have to take what works for you and dont use what doesnt, even if it works for someone else.

Says who tho? The ufc was a competition of who was the best fighter period "no rules" that was the marketing. You think nobody could come up with a simple idea like that without bruce lee.

Bruce Lee made it acceptable to mix different martial arts together during a time where it was frowned upon. Back then, people who trained in multiple arts were looked down upon as “jacks of all trades, masters of none.”

His philosophy of taking what works from every martial art and creating a style based on that is what paved the way for MMA.

He would get absolutely wrecked by any Top 20 UFC fighter, but that should not discredit his contributions to martial arts.

I agree that people who think he could compete with real pro fighters are stupid as hell and ignorant. But that doesn’t mean that he didn’t understand martial arts, or that he didn’t revolutionize them.

I mean who cares how bruce would do against any modern day ufc fighter? should we throw out any and all knowledge because it came before 1993? lol
You can bitch, cry and make babies when confronted with an example of such a preposterously stellar extraordinary human being, but it aint gonna stop the real enthusiasts from lovin on bruce.

Cool, show me any proof that he has an actual fighting record or a real recorded fight vs a pro

So being one of the founders of the very sport you worship today as "real fighting" isn't enough to be respected?

Having "real fighters" in and out of the UFC say that you are the greatest MA ever and a legend in the world of combat not enough to be respected?

Personally inspiring and teaching "real fighters" like ; many pac, sugar ray, Anderson Silva, Roy jones jr, george st pierre isn't enough to be respected?

Kune Do, was a "style without style." It has lesser boundaries maintained by modern martial arts, and addresses the ways to attack foes using the simplest means without wasting motion or time.

Lee describes it best, saying,

"There is no mystery about my style. My movements are simple, direct and non-classical. The extraordinary part of it lies in its simplicity. Every movement in Jeet Kune-Do is being so of itself. There is nothing artificial about it.

And this is 15 years before MMA was even conceived hes birthing these ideas.

If you think "real fighting" is organized sports....then we know what kinda pea brain you are already. l@nd0

Professional sports have rules, referees and time limits, they are not real fights whatsoever they are limited competitions and the fact that you cant tell the difference between organized sporting events and "real fights" says alot.

Not to mention, Bruce Lee is documented and confirmed to have man REAL "fights".

But if it wasn't on TV or in Vegas at the MGM grand it's not real right?<mma3>
but hey it's probably incredibly difficult for you to wrap your small brain around the fact that he was much more then a "fighter" and was an actual lifestyle coach, with real beneficial knowledge that not only helps fighters immensely but also everyday citizens.

It's as simple as actually educating yourself on who he really was BEYOND cinema with an unbiased mind. No one who actually takes the time to find out more about who he was would say the thing you've said. It's pretty obvious you've created this idea in ur head that hes a fraud of a martial artist and will look no further.

I read the OP thinking he was talking about Bruce Buffer and got very confused

Lets start with the most important thing, fighters completely suck at acting and have very weird personalities lol. Not charming at all or can barely put a coherent sentence together. That’s why they act in straight to dvd movies. Bruce was a much better actor and philosopher.

Don’t let his fanboys make you hate the man. Lee wasnt a conman nor an arrogan asshole who claimed a false record like Zelenoff or Ashida Kim. Was he a world beater? Hell no. Was he legit as fuck? No. You must compete for me to gauge your level of skills.

That said, he was a good philosopher who treated martiar arts with respect and honor ( something that is long missing now). He was ahead of his time.

One would think after a day or two on Sherdog that you would be immune to silly YouTube comments. Maybe that's just me? :D

People who talk about him in this video:

Jon Jones, Anthony Pettis, Dana White, Anderson Silva, Rickson Gracie, Joe Rogan, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Alexander Gustafsson, Conor McGregor

This is actually kind of amazing to see. Bruce Lee has been dead for almost 50 years now and so many of the greatest fighters walking the planet has such respect for him and his teachings. I used to love Bruce Lee when I was a kid as well, that's what got me into martial arts.

He definitely trained with some high level people, but whether or not he would actually have gone far as a figher is a moot point. Anyone can see he was skilled, knowledgable and an exceptional athlete. More importantly, he was a pioneer in more ways than one, and a 'larger than life' persona. There's some excellent stuff in his books.

One of the earlier clips him with:
