It’s a mix, doesn’t sound American though. There are hints of it but not enough to say he’s from the US.

Hard to understand why some people call his accent American in this thread. He might be using typical US words or slang at times, but his accent doesn’t sound American at all, not in the slightest.

The kiwi accent morphs pretty easily.

But imo when in the states he slides into more the states accent. In Aus/ nz he sounds kiwi. Well to me. Think it's pretty normal I have mates whose accents change depending on where they've been for 3 months. Let alone the amount of times he's been in the us and interviewed

There are a bunch of distinctly different American accents. Boston accent and Texas accent sound absolutely nothing alike.

I know several people born in Africa from different countries that have the same accent when speaking English. Don’t know what to make of it but there you go.

It's a hard accent to pin, though he definitely does pronounce some words like a Kiwi. It really is a blend of accents. Australia / NZ doesn't have many 2nd or 3rd generation Africans, many of their accents are still a blend.

I will say his accent has struck me as odd, almost American-like. It crosses my mind almost every time I hear Izzy speak.

I’m American and could be be wrong, but he doesn’t sound like a Kiwi to me. When I think of a New Zealand accent, I think of something like Flight of the Conchords:

It’s definitely got a mix of Kiwi/Australasian. Added in. Nigeria uses English though. What you’ll see a lot of people grew up watching American TV they’ll pick up certain traits.

When I first heard Izzy speak, I thought he was English to be honest. I've never really heard an American accent on him.
