News Islam vs Drew Dober Being Targeted for March 6th

pulling out of fights on a regular basis does not exactly endear you to fight fans -- and sherdog fight fans are far more unforgiving. it is our constitutional right that fighters fight when we expect them to. our forefathers made sure of that.

Wow, the hate against Islam Makhachev is pretty intense.

Solid fight but I expected something bigger for Islam. But I guess he’s never actually beaten a ranked fighter so this is a step up.

From calling out McGregor and Chandler to dropping out of the RDA fight now to Dober, jeez Islam's going the wrong direction. Dober's not an easy out either.

In what world was Islam getting a title shot with 2 wins?

Gaethje
Conor vs Dustin winner
Michael Chandler
Tony vs Do Bronx winner

Hes way back.

Hes on the same streak as Du Bronx. If he beat RDA he could have been in line for either of the winners of the Tony or Conor fights.

So that would be 2 fights on top of the 6 or 7 streak hes currently on.

So yes, he could have easily been 2 fights away.

Not if they're every 18 months.

He fought twice in 2019 and had 2 fights cancelled in 2020 beyond his control - one due to Covid travel restrictions and another due to his opponent getting Covid and Islam getting sick. Bad luck in 2020. The fact that you're trying to make it sound like it's an ongoing issue just shows you're a hater.

why would Islam be even 3 fughts away from a title shot? because he’s close with khabib.
He hasn’t beaten any top guys in the top 15

If hed have beat RDA hed have probably lined up to face one of Tony Du Bronx, Dustin or Conor next, if hed have then beat any of them hed probablt have been given a shot.

Big IFs and I dont think he would beat them personally but if hed have beat RDA and possibly beat any of them he would have got a shot probably.

Fun fight.

Think Dober KO's Islam.

Think Islam pulls out a week beforehand even more tho.

March! Jeeze that's far too long amount of time for an Islam match up. This should have been on a way sooner card imo. Both could be off the rankings by then lol.

So Islam was supposed to fight the other day, now gotta wait until March? That's trash

It just seems like a bit of a drop off from guys like RDA or Paul Felder who’s names were being passed around.

I think it’s a good fight, I’m just pointing out the discrepancy in risk/reward compared to what he was getting booked for initially

I agree with this. Dober is obviously solid, but you can’t get beat by a guy like him and still be mentioned in the same conversation as Khabib. In a lot of his fans eyes, he will take over Khabib’s throne once he gets the opportunity eventually, but this would make them lose a lot of credibility for a while regarding that mentality. Dober is good, but he’s not there yet. A win over him on the other hand won’t exactly convert the skeptical either. You are absolutely right about that.

He’s gotta right somebody though so there’s that. Should be fun.

Twice in 2019 huh??? And Twice in 2018. Once each in 2016 and 2017. Damn, Cal Ripken lol

Don't get so defensive. I'm a fan of the guy.

I'd like to see if he could beat someone better than Davi Ramos.

I don't think a top guy would fight him anymore until forced. Jump on his Wiki and he has literally had to pull out of every ranked fight. You can say people are ducking all you want, but signing to fight him means you have a good chance of fighting someone different on short notice.

Dober is a good fight I think. Casual fans won't care but Dober is a dark horse with decent power. Islam should out wrestle him, but I reckon Dober rocks or drops him. I think it might look a bit like Tibau and Khabib to draw comparisons.

In normal years he fights twice. For example if there was no COVID in 2020 he would have fought Hernandez then RDA. Possibly even 3 times in 2020 because he really wanted to fight in Feb/20 but no opponent panned out. FKL got booked with Oliveira.

No need to exaggerate it like he's set to fight once every 18 months.

Direct from Wiki. 6 years in the UFC.
Initially signed a 4 fight contract. He has fought 8 times since. He has pulled out of 4 fights over that period for his own reasons and missed out on 2 due to covid. A failed drug test that was later overturned cost him this fight a couple years ago. He is basically exactly where he was in 2016 due to inactivity. His best win is probably Davi Ramos who I personally rate but has been shown to be beatable on the feet as you would expect from a late transitioning BJJ fighter.

Dober will be his best win and should get him another fight around that top 10-15 range. I believe RDA would have ran through him even though tough wrestlers are his kryptonite.
