Yeah that Moises fight made me super skeptical of Islams sub defense. Not saying it isnt already amazing just not so sure how it will look if a really high level guy gets him in those positions. A good heel hooker couldve ripped his knee out from that spot.

For me It was more so how he chains things together. Islam throws 1 shot at a time and Moises isn’t exactly a killer on the feet. Moises is serviceable but Mj and Alavarez showed he lacks the footwork to evade combos effectively.

Khabib was so elite because both striking and grappling because he was throwing combos and chaining everything together so effortlessly. Islam isn’t Khabib and hasn’t shown the things that made Khabib so unbeatable. I think people forget that.

Yeah i agree. I was already skeptical of his striking before that fight though lol. I think the potential is there and if he stays as active as he was this year, i think those holes will start to get fixed.

Dariush is a tough fight for any lw. He's a multiple time world no-gi and gi champion with 80 takedown defense. Makhachev is not gonna submitt him. I think Dariush has the edge on the feet but Islam will score evnetual takedowns to victory.

He has one of only a handful of straight ankle lock finishes in UFC history and went into the Islam match with a gameplan of looking for leg locks

this imo was the match to make. dariush vs. islam. loser fights the loser of oliviera/porier. id say dariush/islam are both more deserving of a title shot than gaethje. and the winner gets the winner of oliviera/porier. let gaethje fight mcgregor when he returns for a nice pay day. fuck michael chandler.

Dariush is underrated and Islam had easy matchups habdpicked by Ali so far. I dont think this fight will be as one-sided as many believe

I dont see anyone in his path right now that is a high level leg locker. It was the example i chose because that was the specific submission Islam was having trouble with. So someone that is a high level submission guy like Dariush and Charles could present problems for Islam that we arent aware of. It wasnt an insult to Moises because ANYone who can have some success grappling with Islam is high level.

edit: also straight ankle lockers arent the same as good heel hookers. Guys like Craig Jones and Garry Tonon for example.
