Why is he talking about Topuria? Islam just went up a weight class and looked big, and now he's talking about a fighter that moved up to his previous weight class and looks small in it. It's not like he's lacking for people to defend his new title against either, it's the exact opposite.

I get Topuria talking about it, it's facing a bigger challenge for him. Islam talking about it now makes no sense. It's about as dumb when he said that there's no excuse when the smaller Volk also took a fight on short notice, being cocky about it instead of grateful that Volk saved a card by accepting another handicap beyond the size.

The vast majority of guys who have personality and an exciting style wont ever be a star like Conor either. You cant artificially recreate his rise, it was lightning in a bottle.

Islam is still one of the biggest stars in MMA in the last few years anyway. It isnt just about being super exciting or having a big mouth, in his case its about long term dominance, his link to Khabib and having Russia and the whole Muslim world on his side.

Hopefully he won’t get corrupted by all that Muslim money like Khabib was!
