There is no weaker positions when it comes to MAD, so unless the USA has an effective missile defense opposing Russia directly is just as suicidal for the USA than it is for Russia.

As to whether you think that you can wage a war between countries with extensive first and second strike capabilities without them resorting to escalation of conflict when they are losing, well thats something that we really dont know.

I also find it funny how civilians that get killed by rebel rocket and suicide bombings in government areas rarely get mentioned. Either way, jihadists being fed into the meat grinder is a victory for all humanity.
