In particular, I am not a fan of changing the race of a main character for the sole reason to inject diversity into a role. It really pisses me off when it is based upon a book I read multiple times. For example, in Dr sleep, the little girl with all the powers is abra stone and she is desribed as a blonde girl and in the movie, she is black. Regardless, I loved the movie and think it does an excellent job, including the black girl playing abra-but initially, it oissed me off.


The book the passage by Justin Cronin has a little girl with powers named Amy and she is described as being white with dark hair and in the series, she is black. I just hate when you read a book multiple times (just finished listening to it in audio book a few weeks ago and I am working my way through the second book now) and you get a picture in your head and they take that picture and the source material and throw it out the fucking window for the reasons of a diverse cast.

It happens all the time, except making a black character white-that won’t happen like it did with black face and no movie that did that should be taken seriously. Hell, there was huge controversy over making tilda swinton the ancient one in Dr strange and there is even a name for it-white washing while in the same movie they changed an Asian dude in the source material for a black guy in the movie but there were no cries of black washing

I say this with all due respect but why should anyone GAF that you do not want the content owners to refresh their material every 10, 20 or 50 years for newer generations because 'you liked it as it was'.

It is absolutely nothing new for the face of spiderman or Batman, etc or whoever the owners of the art want, to get an update and new look in the hopes of reselling the same material to a newer and younger audience.

i did not care about the last Alien movie. It was 'alright' but basically just a doOver of the first movie. But the target audience, young people who did not see the original theatrical release of Alien loved it.

I did not love the Angelica Jolie, SALT movie. It was just alright. But my ex wife loved it saying it was one of the first big action female roles, like that she had seen.

I find the biggest complainers on these things are white males, who have had 99.9% of all prior material made and directed at them and who now cry when anything is remade for any one else. Seriously GTF over it and thinking the world should forever revolve around you.

Miles Morales is a completely separate character from Peter Parker in another timeline with his own unique backstory.

A more apt comparison would be them taking the same exact Peter Parker character with the same backstory and just race or gender swapping them. That's lame AF.

I am not asking anyone to give a fuck what my opinion is, but I gave my opinion in the discussion about woke shit and changing the race of a character in the one and only iteration of a source material-they’re not going to remake Dr sleep or the passage, and as a consumer and fan of the source material, I have the right to hate such decisions because a director or producer wants to shake things up and inject race changes. Stephen King said he loved the idea and agreed and my point was “mother fucker, you wrote the book and if you want diversity, then write it like that” and I wouldn’t care one bit but when I spend the time to read a book, I expect some attempt to recreate the source material faithfully, not someone trying to shake things up in the widest way possible by making a character a different race or next up-trans.
And this goes for black characters that are made white from paper to the film-Not that this happens anymore.

And I don’t think i have to have the world revolve around me, I simply want directors and producers to try to follow the source material and not make changes for the sole sake of diversity.

Bollywood SPECIFICALLY starting casting some more white and other nationalities in some of their movies as they realized they were attracting a bigger fan base. You see the same in Korean film now.

So you need to lecture them that race should NEVER matter and NEVER be a consideration.
