Is UFC the Stingiest Sports League?

OIP.0Cl57Kwnjed9_ProQOi1VAHaF2

Lebron James would be in the UFC right now, but with his dogs he'd be unable to supplement his income with the foot fetishists on OnlyFans.

Dana's said so himself that if he pays more fighters aren't gonna wanna fight. MMA would turn into boxing.
Does he use the same logic for himself and promoting? What an insulting thing to say, much less believe, sounds like some shit Bob Arum or Don King would say. I shouldn’t be surprised coming from a guy with only a HS diploma.
Too bad the fighters can’t get dividends by borrowing money against the organization like Dana and friends did last year.
Guys aren’t fighting as it is.

I think most of the major sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) give roughly half their revenue back to the players. UFC is around 20% I believe. But, it's quite a bit different with the team structure as opposed to the independent contractor structure used by the UFC. And, when you have 1 owner (WME) as opposed to 30 or more different owners in the other sports league, that's a major difference as well.

Those are US examples and the revenue figures are astronomically more, which means there is more revenue that isn't expensive to generate. It is better to compare the UFC to smaller sporting leagues.

In Australia both Aussie rules, rugby league and cricket share between 20-30% and the leagues aren't really that profitable.

The other thing when comparing with those leagues they have a significant merchandising arm. While the UFC does it, I don't believe it is anywhere near as popular. Even in Australia where I live there would be at least 10 shops at my local shopping mall selling NBA merch, while there is no UFC mech for sale (there is other brands of MMA merch at some of the sports shops). You can safely assume Reebok didn't renew the UFC deal because they weren't selling much.

UFC is a badly run company. What do u expect from a CEO as Dana white and shareholders like Mike Wahlberg. Dana is not fit to run a kiosk let alone a billion dollar company.
Yet it was the best sport promotion at dealing with Covid.

Those are still full fledge MMA fights...regardless of PFL set up the sport remains the same...MMA between the two

If PFL is a league so is the UFC..

UFC isnt a sport...and promotion is just an interchangeable word with league is my argument...there no distinguishing difference
C’mon. Again, name another “league” that doesn’t have any of the following - teams, schedules, standings, seasons........saying there is “no distinguishing difference” is ridiculous.

The PFL has had 2 seasons in history. Did you just have an epiphany on the UFC after PFL?

Is all of boxing a league? If I go pro in boxing, am I joining the global boxing league? I won’t even ask about golf and tennis......

And lastly, I don’t really care and don’t see how it makes any difference that you consider it a league. It really doesn’t change anything.

They mean the same thing...i just showed u this...

NHL has rankings.... Some other sports have rankings ...others standings...

Neither One is reserved for sport only...

This makes it clear as day they are the same....please stop ..its just formalities and semantics
Standings based on record and rankings based on voting are not the same thing. Especially when the rankings have no explicitly defined consequence.

No. I think that other “pro athletes” are grossly overpaid. 5-10 million a year to play a childs game? Get real.

All while soldiers that leave their families and go to war are lucky to make 30k a year.

Now that pro sports are on the downfall, hopefully salaries will follow. It costs 100-500 bucks to get a seat at an NFL game. For some reason, fools have paid these prices for decades.

Don’t like the pay, go be a plumber or construction worker for 50k a year busting your ass like the rest of us.

So where should the money made on ticket sales and TV rights go? To the team owners? How is being paid millions a year to own a child's game any better than being paid the money to play the child's game? Its child games all the way down.

Dana's said so himself that if he pays more fighters aren't gonna wanna fight. MMA would turn into boxing.

By the same argument, paying him more means he won't want to promote. So obviously his pay should be drastically slashed.

The ufc has set number of events per year...and the schedule is monthly and even weekly..

Those things ur specifying arent necessary for a league or a promotion

By definition

Leagues are merely places for teams and players to participate under in a sport...MMA being the sport...

MMA gyms are commonly known as Teams...even for floyd mayweather has a team..so do other boxers..

Is the UFC formated like the NFL no...but it doesnt make any less of a league..just not as structured...

Kinda like UEFA champions league vs NHL... There not structured anything alike..yet both are leagues...

Not all things are created equally but that doesnt mean there not same when categorizing them..like apple and oranges arent the same but there both fruit..

like others have said, it's the NCAA and Olympics. They make billions and don't pay the athletes.

Your just restating the issues brought up in this very thread...Rankings are suppose to operate with merit just like standings..but since the UFC chooses to operate poorly doesnt change the meaning of the words...your mixing corruption with definition

The UFC rankings can very well be its downfall in the coming months/ years as fighters will get tired of winning and not getting there due respects...and those fighters will gravitate towards promotion's/leagues like PFL....

For example in PFL...Tony would of got his title shot more then once over.. Same for sterling ...same for assuncao back in the day...guys arent gunna wanna keep putting on streaks and not get the title shot in the end...

PFL just needs a few more bigger signings and bump that 1 milly prize which they will and have stated in the past and we will see a possible shift in the landscape..IMO

As a guy looking to fight MMA myself...id have a hard time deciding which offer to take between PFL and the UFC if offered to me....

You’ve broadened the term “league” such that your own argument falls apart. Most “leagues” under the broadest of terms do not have unions, don’t pay 50% of revenue, don’t do the things you seem to expect from the ufc.

And again, you’re free to have your preferences and wants for the ufc. But don’t expect it or think it’s the way things will or should be.

Calling it a league changes nothing as under the broadest definitions a league is a nebulous term with no real meaning anyway.

NHL, NBA, or NFL standings are the result of the objective outcomes of the scheduled contests that take place in a season.

UFC rankings are subjective opinions.

Which is the way combat sports have almost always been.
