Is Tito Ortiz a good or bad manager?

Tito became a huge name by self promotion. He will be an excellent manager.

Also his g/f Jenna is a very smart business woman. Yes, we all know she did porn, but after porn she became very rich in her business knowledge...

dude

no

the olsen twins (full house) also made a fortune while they were just kids with all the dolls and stuff . do you really think it was them or perhaps someone pitched them ideas to use their fame to make everyone involved rich? do you think the kardashians are making millions off of inventing cosmetic lines or are people pitching them products to endorse?

jenna was good at porn and tito was good at fighting and hyping fights. ufc is the promoter, they dont want or need tito hyping fights and neither do his clients. they need a manager

tito has a really poor relationsip with the ufc. they battled for years and even at the end of titos career dana said him and tito still butt heads, its just one of those things. its always a battle with tito

now imagine you are a new fighter and you want to break in to the ufc. theres a bunch of guys who also want to break in to the ufc. it comes down to you and two other guys. do you really think having tito as your manager is a good thing in that spot? signing a guy managed by tito means negotiating and dealing with tito at least 3 times per year..... for each fighter he has. the ufc is going to roll their eyes everytime they have to deal with tito, just like they have over the past decade. they arent going to jump at the chance to be signing with fighters who force them to deal with tito

to all of you who think, but but but its business its not personal. false. everything is personal. yes people put business first in these spots but personal stuff plays a part in every business and every decision. tito coming back to the ufc wasnt a case of business instead of personal, it was a case where it was business in spite of personal. theres a difference

I predict that Tito Ortiz will be banned from UFC events within 1 year.

I like how people talk about his "rocky relationship" with the UFC/Zuffa when all of his fights are on ppv or main eventing t.v. He managed to totally spite Dana White and yet Dana kept putting him on ppv, they made an entire show about Tito basically being a bitch and not boxing DW, yet DW still put him on ppv for every single fight after. He was going to retire after back surgery, could've gone to the "competition" in Strikeforce or wherever, yet was welcomed back to the UFC.

I think anyone basing what he can bring to the table based on his record or managing a female fighter need to check themselves first. He's made tons of money over the last 15 years doing whatever the fuck he wants and no one has told him otherwise. I don't like Tito when he's "Tito the character", his stints on TUF showed he's a great trainer, loves the sport, his personality is what people pay to see kick ass or get beat. He could come out of retirement tomorrow and I promise you he'd be on ppv, not FX or the undercard, but on ppv in one of the top 3 fights. As usual.

only people who have been managed by him over a period of time could possibly know that

cliffs. you are clueless

theres a difference between management and promotion. tito is looking to manage fighters. tito can fight and tito can train guys but managing is totally different

dana was titos fucking manager. they couldnt stand each other for years. they never got along. it got to a point where tito wasnt fighting as an un retired fighter. every time one of titos fighters wants to fight in the ufc they have to deal with tito, which they hate

if you cant connect the dots on why thats terrible for the fighter then lol

A lot of people here are directly mocking Ortiz and automatically discrediting him as a manager calling him "incompetent" and stupid.

But let's not forget that in his UFC career, he always succeeded at promoting his matchs, and even well after his decline.

In his last two disclosed payouts, years after becoming completely irrelevent in the MMA rankings, he still managed to get pay 450k (a win against Bader) and 250k( a defeat against Forrest) while much more talented and relevent fighters are getting paid way less than that.

Ortiz is one of the fighter that made the most money in the UFC, he knows perfectly well how to promote a fight and how to act to create interest with the casual fan.

I think he is one of the most logical choice as a manager.

Not sure he will make a good manager, at least he knows how to make excusses.

He should train fighters instead of tryin to be the business man.

We'll see in a year or two. Bit early to make a decision based solely on him trying to get Cyborg out of her contract.

We will see in a week I think. In a year we will see if he has matured. Right now it seems like he is being a terrible manager.

he seems like he is horrible but i guess we will see later this week

To be honest he never seemed like the smartest guy to me, but I really respect him considering what he came from and what he accomplished. He made the best of what he had to work with.

Stupid? Tell that to all of the fighters from Bulgarium that he scouted.

Tito will be fine as a manager. Does he lack in some areas as a manager Ie experience managing? Sure that's a fact. But every mma fighter can learn something about the business side of mma from Tito. Every fighter.

Potentially a good coach and he certainly helps keep Cyborgs name in the media but in terms of decisions reguarding the UFC I'm not sure letting yourself become a potential proxey for the age old Tino/Dana fued is a good idea.

Self-promotion doesn't mean you make a good manager. That's one aspect of it, which he gets well. I was disappointed when I heard Cyborg weighed 152 recently while not preparing for a fight. She also took steroids before which help you keep low body fat and add muscle.

Based on that 152, Tito advising her to leave the UFC when that's clearly the hot spot for women over Invicta now sounds bizarre to me. We're talking 17 pounds when she has to be more careful with drugs now and is not in camp.

IDK if he's a good or bad manager though based on one instance with one fighter. Him being popular makes his fighters get more attention, but ultimately it's signing the best deals for a fighter in his stable and he's 0-1 in big ones now.

All I know is that he is Cyborgs manager and I don't know what he can manage there.

He has a fighter that can't cut to 135 and a promotion that has no need for 145 female fighters. Kind of a no-win situation there.

Let him sign some more fighters than we'll see.
