Is this legal

sure its legal. weird, but legal. that said, the only time I do it, is if someone is trying to get a sloppy RNC on, and are mashing my jaw. I will give just enough space to allow a piece of their forearm in and dig away. eye for an eye.

Sure this works in a sporting contest, but it should always be kept in mind that a 'sloppy RNC' on the jaw, can actually break said body part.

thus me allowing the forearm to slip down (relieving that pressure) and me digging in my chin (creating discomfort to them) :icon_chee

Hmmhh.. in a real altercation, I'd take a huge bruise on the forearm any day, if it means I get to break your jaw.

But we are straying a bit from the topic and self defense is not something you can really properly discuss, too many variables.

If you're doing it with the intention of hurting your training partner, then you're a douche.

He is hurting himself by not giving up his guard if he can't use a worthless move to his advantage. It is one thing to try to break their jaw when they "defend" against a RNC as they can't get out. In guard however they can always just open their legs and let that be the end of it.

I hate when people do this. It's not even that painful and it just makes me mad and makes me want to choke a bitch.

I'd invite people to my gym, but it's surrounded by a moat with alligators in it.

I gotta ask, did you say this because this was Rorion's original idea for around the Octagon at UFC 1 or is this just a silly coincidence?:icon_conf

yeah, I am not sure why you mentioned self defense, since the whole question was "is this legal?"
in a SD situation, if someone had an RNC I would be gouging their eyes or reaching for a hand full of nards.

Well because sometimes it is good to keep an honest perspective. Like for example, I like to go upside down in guard sometimes and play around which is good fun. But I keep reminding myself that this would be a very dangerous situation in a fight.

And the same goes for tucking the chin to defend the RNC.

And dude, eye gouging? Seriously? Here is Bas Rutten, whose view on the topic I share...

IMO the jaw crank is the same as digging an elbow into someones guard. Ok for tournament (although getting the actual technique and using an actual technique, respectively, would be much better), douche for training.

yes, eye gouging. Here is the thing, I am an adult with a career and kind of a family. If I get into a fight these days, it is 100% something I wanted nothing to do with from the get go, tried to avoid at all costs, and would like to preserve my ability to continue with the aforementioned things in my life. if you are that much of a piece of shit that you would still try to fight me, and actually get me into a very dangerous position, I will do whatever it takes to preserve my safety. is that wrong?

example, the last "fight" I was in, was about 3 years ago, where I was jumped by two dudes weilding baseball bats, while I was walking my pug. If I could have gouged their eyes out to preserve my pugs and my safety, I would have. Instead, I managed to grab a bat first from one guy, and start wailing away on him until the other guy stopped wailing on me.

I practive BJJ because I love the art and the sport, but if I ever have to defend my life, or that of my loved ones, I will do whatever it takes. again, is that wrong?

Not at all brother, I wasn't implying that eye gouging was 'cheap' or any nonsense like that.
In a real fight you do anything to be the one walking away, not the one laying on the ground.

My point is that eye gouges are NOT something that is useful enough to be practicing in my opinion. That was my only point.

its not something I practice. plus, in reference to the bas video, how many people are actually going to know how to break someones neck, let alone posess the ability like bas to execute something like? when someone gets a thumb pushing their eyeball back in its socket, or gets their nuts smashed like a stress toy, the last thing they are going to have is common sense, like to continue to inflict greater pain to out do your opponent...

anyways, chin digging is like elbow digging uncalled for in almost every situation, but legal. so tournament time, game on.

The difference is that digging elbows in the thighs is just completely shit. Again, it is something you LET your opponent do. It is not something he does to you, you do it to you.

If your opponent is digging his elbows in then he will have a bad defence against breaking down his posture.

Unofficially it's called jonesing and it happens even in amateur wrestling. The more scientific application is pressuring Tsubo points to make the opponent react or turn a certain way.

The elbow in the ribs from to get the wrestler's guillotine with a single leg vine is a perfect example. i.e. your avatar. That pic was on our mat room wall as well. Good ish.

I advised people to stay away from such move at/between white and blue belts.

But once we roll between high belts, we pretty much roll douche bag style with each other.

If you do douche bag tricks, just be ready to take it.
