Is there a connection between American wrestling culture and cheating?

Just a stream of thoughts I had 5 minutes ago...

Who are the most prolific cheaters in UFC history?

Jon Jones is easily #1 with eye pokes, steroids, etc.

Then you have Kamaru Usman, Michael Chandler, TJ Dillashaw.

Then you have guys who don't necessarily cheat but try to win by foul-calling or exaggerating/exploiting technicalities like Sterling and Weidman.

Also it's common when 2 wrestlers fight, and 1 of them fouls, the other one starts trying to outfoul the person (Colby-Kamaru, DC-Stipe).

Is there a connection here or am I reaching?
Is Conor an American wrestler?

we also have rules
if the rules or referee judged it as fair then its fair
they are profesionals who doesnt use their feelings to judge
I mean this is just nonsense

A shame. Because you had some other valid points

I’m not a fan of the whole “if you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying” thing. There’s an endless amount of cases where a fighter could have fouled their opponent but didn’t because they have respect for their opponent and the rules of the sport. In the case of Chandler he clearly lacks both.

I had a similar question recently.

Which American wrestler is not a complete dick?

Might be a side effect from the roids in their NCAA days but it's remarkably consistent.
He's been caught on PEDS of course but Josh Barnett perhaps? it is a very jock culture though I'd agree, even the less "classy" Brazilian MMA scene did tend to have a bit more of a sense of honour were acting like a total dick was frowned on a bit more.

There is a long history of cheating to win any type of fight. This may be because people do not like getting their ass beat.

OP is on the right track and is intentionally trying to bait. The connection is with people trying to win at sports and cheating.

Yes starts with weight cutting first form of cheating

Gilbert Yval might be the biggest cheater of all time.

But damn, does Chandler ever stop cheating?

Fouling and cheating are different
Referees are to take out points and get the fighters to another position, or a standing position for different fouls. And yes fouling is part of wrestling, also part of basketball, football, and lots of other sports

I wrestled for a long time. There is no correlation between American wrestling and cheating in my observations.

No, the UFC is in America and America has a tradition of wrestling in high school and college so there are just a disproportionate amount of Americans in the UFC that have wrestling backgrounds. If you consider how many foul or pop for PEDs compared to the total it's miniscule.
