Is the mma "superman" punch illegal in boxing?

Julio Cesar Chavez knocked Roger Mayweather out with a superman-ish punch.

That's fantastic.

This thread pops up like every other month. No it isn't illegal it's just useless

Now that I think of it, wasn't the Roger knock down ruled a slip? Then Chavez stopped him?

Why would you call it useless when someone posted in this thread a gif of the legendary Julio Chavez dropping the equally legendary Roger Mayweather with this same move?

What's the point of feigning a kick in a boxing match?

This was my first thought. When I was learning MT my coach taught us that the superman punch was really a feint of a right kick to the body/leg to get the opponent to drop their guard so you could score a right hand, preferably after landing several leg/body kicks in succession to legitimize the threat and cause them to commit to a reflexive block thereby opening the door for a punch. A lot of guys tend to over-exaggerate the move, it really should be pretty short and compact so you don't end up off balance.

Looks to me like JCC was so eager to punch RM that he was literally leaping into his punches...not a strict superman punch in the literal sense but yes his feet did leave the ground so you could say he was flying at Mayweather like Superman lol...no it's not textbook boxing, but many times great boxers can make "incorrect" moves work because they are functioning at a very high level and will do unorthodox things to catch their opponent off guard.

dont know about pro rules but in amateurs its forbidden since you are not allowed to do jumping shit.

this aint kung fu yo!

Assuming you aren't trolling.

Roger was already hurt and he was off balance so unable to get away from any punch or to punch back so Chavez thought "fuck it" and literally jumped on him because simply he could he used the jump to cover distance not because it's a technique that will work vs a high level opponent who isn't hurt already and off balance.

Chavez could have either just taken his time he he could have switch hit or shifted or whatever you wanna call it or he could have simply leaped forward.
As often it was a case of he did it because he could not because he should

Lol, I freely admit I did get carried away there but the "black mamba" was awesome in his own right
