Nope , never been really fussed by it tbh . Don't think I've ever even finished it.

This. I managed to finish it, I thought it was alright. The second one was a heaping pile of shit though.

The Godfather isn't even in my top 500th movie.

Very good movie
I don't think it cracks my top 10.

It's a smidge slow paced for my taste, great if you are in the mood for a slow burn and really settling into that vibe but I rarely have the time or can get the couple of hours uninterrupted.

Sorry to be that guy, but the book is excellent. For whatever reason I really enjoyed it more and found it a lot easier to follow. There's so many characters and side characters and that leads to fairly limited screen time even for fairly important characters such that as a film I find myself being like "hey wait which guy is that?" - but in the book it is very user friendly in terms of who is who and what is the significance of their involvement in each particular piece of the plot action.

I watched the movie after reading the book and kept thinking "how the hell is someone who didn't read the book supposed to follow what's going on?"

For example, when Sonny orders Clemenza to off Paulie. In the movie out of nowhere he's like "Yeah kill him, he sold out the old man" that's it. My friend was like "huh? what? how?" Meanwhile in the book they dedicated a whole few pages or a chapter to how Sonny and the others discovered that Paulie was a traitor

I remember the book going into so much detail about Al Neri and how he becomes Michael's main bodyguard/enforcer and he just feels like an extra in the movie. Though they do actually give him a few lines in Parts II and III.
