Is Stipe the most evolved fighter ever?

certainly not.

he came into MMA with a boxing background, and wins primarily using fisticuffs, esp strong straights and jabs.

he gassed in a fight early in his career, stupidly. so he made the necessary adjustments.

he is now a fighter that wins primarily using fisticuffs, esp strong straights and jabs, and yet doesn't gas stupidly.

better question - does TS purposely dumb himself down to get a high number of responses? or (and this is a sad thought) does he not do it on purpose?

Actually he didn't come into MMA with a boxing background. Didn't do a lick of boxing before starting MMA training. His background was wrestling.

If arlovski won he was fighting for the title next. That was understood fool. It was a number 1 contender fight and nothing else. Jesus Christ you people can' remember shit
Lol you are a funny dude
Why is dj still avoiding jds he would fuck him up lmao

interesting. i only went off UFC and Rogan, who of course mention his Golden Gloves background. Wiki also mentions it:

With a background of being a Cleveland Golden Gloves boxing champion and NCAA Division I wrestler at Cleveland State, Miocic began his MMA career by winning his first five fights by knockout.

but a quick search tells me that @FedorGOAT investigated it further and found no record of him boxing, here.

so i don't know what to think. you may be right. it certainly wouldn't be the first time Rogan got excitable about something that didn't end up being exactly true (or was true-ish).

if you had a different source than these two above which suggest that he absolutely didn't box until MMA, i'd certainly give it it's due.

but whether he ever actually trained boxing, or merely learned boxing during mma training, he certainly seems to have more classic boxing skills than most. and by that i mostly mean stance, footwork, jabs and straights. and most importantly, he's been able to used that more classic boxing style effectively within MMA, which is no simple feat.

The Golden Gloves thing happened between his amateur and pro MMA stints, a period of about one and a half years. His coach thought it would be a useful experience to sharpen his hands; even he probably didn't think Miocic could end up in the quarterfinals of the national championship in such a short time. I'm off to work now, but if you're interested I'll append some sources later. (There's some funny bits of interviews of him talking about his inexperience in the Sweet Science when he started training MMA.) The guy who taught him boxing was Joe Delguyd, a guy who trains pro fighters like Antonio Nieves and Ryan Martin...which explains why he's more classically bent.

Conor evolved more after the diaz1 fight then stipe has in his entire time in the ufc. The truth is the overweight division is a joke. All those guys have been around since the dawn of time and they just cant hang anymore. Andrei and overeem get knocked out by everybody. Bald JDS sucks compared to full head hair JDS. Stipe is talked about like hes some great boxer but he barely moves his head if at all and hes gonna fall off the radar hard once he gets caught. He gets pressured a lot and nearly put out in a good amount of his fights he just has the youth the others dont to tough it out. Hes done good but I wouldnt say hes evolved and I dont think hes going to last very long. Reminds me of heavyweight Ronda

New thing to go along with motivated Penn? Full Head of Hair JDS?
