Anderson and Machida said they learned from him because he paid them. It was a PR stunt. Anderson initially said Seagal taught him that kick, but later admitted he knew the snap kick from Muay Thai many years ago at a young age.
He's legit compared to an average Joe. I'm well aware of his Aikido credentials, but that stuff doesn't compare to the more standard MMA disciplines. Let alone of a UFC caliber fighter.
I just saw this Sean Connery video. Connery said he broke his wrist, which Connery learned of almost 15 years later. But that was by accident. Anyway, Connery is no fighter.
I already said how Seagal knows leverage well and put Anderson in a wrist lock that made him yell in a video I saw. But putting a real fighter in such a hold to begin with is the hard part. And Seagal isn't skilled enough to pull it off, even against the smaller UFC fighters.
