Is Steven Seagal legit?

In real life uncle steve would ride a tank then shoot you with advanced tech rifles

So was Newton. It doesn't change my view of his abilities

He was not even the best skill one in his own dojo. He was good, but he wasnt on the same level of akido that the gracies are in bjj.

If you want to see a real bad ass American martial artist check out Bruce Tegner. His Aikido was pretty legit. He even taught MMA in the 50's. He was basically Bruce Lee 20 years earlier.

he couldn't touch JCVD... JVCD has a legit 18-1 kickboxing record
Is it really though? Mickey Rourke has a boxing record on wikipedia, but the ones i watched where were clearly works.

It is not. It is Belgian Karatekas trying out full contact Karate for the first time.

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing (I don’t know much about JCVD) but I am “old” and fought in sanda around Europe in my youth (80s-90s) ... back then most competitions - other than the official ones to qualify for specific championships (for example in my case sanda/wushu) - were simply called “full contact” or “kickboxing” which basically meant all stand up styles together with some general rules (usually no elbows, no knees, no throws, boxing or kumite gloves, sometimes feet/shin pads).
Some great competitions and really hard by today’s standards ... I remember one big open in France attended every year by hundreds of athletes, KOs aplenty, marginal medical supervision, multiple fights per day, sometimes for the elimination rounds no ring/mats (! ... fighting on basketball courts) ... if only my parents knew what I was doing exactly or I had some more self-preservation awareness ... crazy times! o_O
Goddamnit, start a thread and tell us EVERYTHING

Details.

Copious Details.

Where did he get that Coke nose from? You don't add fat on your nose

Neither is Steven Seagal. Chuck Zito has been in more real fights than both of them though, he is no fluffy.
I would pick Chuck Zito to win against Segal thats for sure.

Lies.

MT, BJJ and TKD are all functional arts that can be incorporated into a fighters arsenal with deadly effect.

Aikido cannot, nor ever has.

Seek help.
Its more of a mindset than it is a real self defense art. I think certain kind of peopel gravitate to it,,and keeps them fit and sound of mind...but you couldnt go in and face real fighters with just those tools. These people arent conditioned for real combat with resistance.

It's possible with innate ability (great fighters are born, not created) BUT it's such a big hurdle compared to having daily pressure testing.

The fighter has a psychological edge, is in his own world, while you feel like a fish out of water. It's most devastating when your opponent has your same strengths. That's when it really becomes demoralizing. He's you+ fighting experience. But the ability to fight is pretty much there from the get go. Guys in clubs who are good were always good, and guys who are mediocre were always that way.

IMO Jean Claude doesn't have the power and accuracy to KTFO a young Steven with his spinning shit and Steven doesn't have the tools to close the distance and apply an under siege move.

Like most TMA dudes they would probably end up on the ground looking like clueless bums in a street fight, even cage fighters perform underwhelming in the wild so...

Mmm
i think it can be unlocked in people. Some people who avoid fights because they are afraid dont really know how they would be,and find that its not nearly as bad as they thought. Wladimir Kiltichko did say "My brother was a born fighter,I was not. I had to learn"

Legit martial artist I'd say so but that's not saying how effective his martial arts are.

Steven Seagal rivals Willie Nelson in Love Songs:

is there any proof that he's legit? of course not. and I'm not talking about word of mouth "proof", or that a few Brazilians hung out with him because he's a movie start, or that he taught fuckin aikido in Japan etc. he comes from the 70's/80's martial arts generation that was based off mysticism; not reality. twisting someones wrist and telling them how bad ass you were was pretty common in the 70's/80's. but very few of the traditional martial arts teachers were worth a damn. it's rather clear he's insane and believes his own hype.

The difference is that ones who were legit back then were tough as nails. Everything is watered down today.
