I tried playing Cyberpunk which I never uninstalled since the last time I played it. I clicked the icon, it opened Steam, I needed to download an upgrade for the game. Idk why, the last time I played it was ok. Took forever to download. Once downloaded, still couldn't play it. It redirects to CD Project Red's app to show me the Witcher IV trailer.

I clicked the icon again, doesn't play. Even after restarting my PC I couldn't play. Why can't I play a game I have had two paythroughs already? I paid for this shit years ago. Why does it need to connect to their servers for me to play? Fuuuuuuuuuucccckkkkk!!!!!!

Maybe go to properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files

I know recently War Thunder downloaded an update that fucked up the game for me, and I wound up having to re-install

I already did this. Doesn't work. I reset my geographic area because it got it wrong, and cleared the download cache, still doesn't work.

I don’t know I’ve never had this issue

Every Tuesday is maintenance day for Steam. Typically it happens around 5pm till 7pm EST. Considering today is a day before a national holiday it might of been moved up a few hours. Especially since now and into January nearly all Valve employees take their corporate holiday vacation/retreat.

Apart from the aforementioned weekly maintenance schedule, for any website or service, just check this:

If you see a spike (it will show you for your area unless you're using something to mask your IP/location), that means the servers themselves are probably down. If not, then it's probably an issue on your side with something else.

@Zer How is War Thunder now? I have 1500 hours in that damn game and haven't played it since 2021.
I really liked it when it was focused on WW2 stuff, and not as much when it started to go more modern tech.

Well I play it on and off and only have close to 300 hours total. I jumped into it again this year after a long hiatus. I found some of my favourite vehicles (Like the KV-2) had been nerfed and weren't as fun. The maps haven't changed a whole lot (Although I see the community complains about a lot of minor changes that alter the gameplay). Probably the worst thing is the map rotation because often times you'll play the same map like 5/6 times in a row, and there are some maps I loved back in the day and still love now but they rarely seem to pop up. But ultimately I still enjoy the game and can wind up playing it for hours. I'm still pretty much in the WW2 era for unlocks as I'm rotating between all nations trying to build them up (Also when I started playing again there were a ton of new vehicles to unlock)

I've had some issues with several games, it's been one or the other depending on the game

I still can't play. I think some Windows update blocked torrenting apps from being installed and it affected how Steam processes gameplaying.

Oh, this is a piracy thing.

Yeah. Windows Update 24H2 broke the hacking of any Denuvo DRM protected games that have been cracked. So you have to roll back to a previous version of Windows, and then block the 24H2 update specifically (or updates altogether) if you're someone who plays pirated games.

In the best interest of the forum, we will not elaborate on this topic any further.

I never pirated a game on this PC. I bought and paid for CP2077 years ago. But again the Windows update seemed to affect Steam.

I don't understand why you brought up torrenting apps. I assumed when you said it blocked "torrenting apps from being installed" you were referring to games downloaded via torrent clients. Because I haven't seen or heard anything about the installation of torrenting clients themselves being blocked. I think maybe you're suffering firewall issues. It sounds like maybe your firewall got borked and is blocking a bunch of apps from getting through. If that included Steam, then yeah, it could be screwing up everything for gaming.

Check to make sure CP77 and Steam both have permissions to get through your firewall.

I noticed that I couldn't open a torrent app I previously installed, and surmised it had something to do with the Win update and Steam. Not that I torrent anything regularly.

Not being able to open an app is not the same as being blocked from being able to install an app. And being able to open an app, but that app not working properly because it somehow became blocked in the firewall would also be a different issue (as it sounds like you can open Steam, but it doesn't work properly).

Maybe your torrent app became corrupted. It may not be related to the Steam issue. Whatever the problem is, it is on your end. You should uninstall and reinstall both those apps. If all of this happened because of a Windows update, try rolling back. If your firewall got borked, try peeling through the .cpl to see if any apps that should have access through the Firewall don't.
