Is Rumble the third greatest LHW of all time?

What happened to likes buttons in this thread, this thread isn't old, but not there anymore, odd.

@mirko>anyone

I didn't want to get that thread side tracked lol, but yeah
At the end of the day, we'd never know.

The biggest thing for me like you pointed out is his heart. If he was as tough as Shogun or Hendo, I mean, he probably can beat anybody at LHW, past present and future.

And he only lost to Cormier too. That's not a bad thing and he has some great wins.

Loved Rumble as a fighter, but no amount of mental gymnastics could support this assertion.

Not a single version of Shogun beats Jon with experience, even limited experience. He demolished him with no effort as a 22 year old. If you think 05GP shogun beats a debuting JBJ when he’s never trained I guess you’re right, but not a fucking chance at any other point in Jon’s career was Shogun a threat
I’m not a big shogun guy but he tore his acl 3 times in the 4 years before he fought jones including a year layoff recovering from the third surgery before he fought him

I think not many can be same from knee surgeries that many times like that. I don't think Shogun was an exception to the rule.

I still remember being mindblown by Shogun's run in 2005.

Hardly fair comparing Rumble who's in his 20's with 25 fights deep into his career as a fresh recent former title challenger compared to a guy who's already highly decorated in his mid 30's with 42 fights deep into his career.

Rumble was also in his 30's too. And Rampage was coming off a title fight against Jones.

Rampage. He’s got wins over Chuck, wanderlei. Hendo, Machida

Wins over Chuck are valid. Hendo was close and Machida was iffy.

His “win” over Wand was hardly impressive, he got annihilated twice when it mattered and only beat him after he went on a losing streak.

@JustOnce, just rewatched Rumble/Koscheck. Haven't got time for Clementi and the DC fights, but the Koscheck one gave me similar vibes to what I remember from the DC fights. Koscheck took some pretty good shots from Rumble, including a big right hand as he was charging in in the first round.

Downed knee/eye-poking shenanigans aside, Koscheck beats on Rumble at the end of R1 on the ground pretty good. Gets to a similar position in R2, lands some good GnP, and Rumble has a look on his face like he wants out of there. Barely defended the RNC.

Tbh, great fight for that era. I think both guys from that fight would easily find themselves in the WW rankings nowadays, not sure where. But ranked for sure.

Prime Kos definitely can easily crack top 10 for sure. He would be tough out for anybody. I wish we could see Fitch/Shields/Kos/Hughes against someone like Colby.

Kos was really good back then, and Rumble was only 25 back then too and Kos was able to find that quit in him.
Rumble at LHW was really a classic example of what a correct weight class can do for a talented young fighter.

Rip Rumble
