Is Pereira already fighter of the year?

No one else is even close, but the distant second would be Holloway if he beats Topuria.

This coming from who is arguably the dumbest poster on sherdog just validades the fact. Thank you. I'm sure they would let you in the bathtub if you were a bit more famous.
Buddy you just said LHW is a better division than LW…it takes a special kind of retard to think that let alone type it lol. Go watch pro wrestling, mma ain’t for you.

This was a meaningless fight and the winner of Max Ilia is gonna be the fighter of the year unless the fight ends with a freak injury, DQ or anything like that...

Nothing meaningless about securing the most title defenses in the quickest time span in modern UFC history.
You're right meaningless is to hard, almost meaningless would be more accurate.

The record is not that important when it is done vs the 8# guy who didn't deserve a title shot and is a favorable matchup for you. If they were doing that to other champs, maybe it wouldn't even be a record.

Because he beat the #8th ranked fighter in one of the weakest divisions in the UFC? The LW equivalent of Rountree is someone like Bobby Green, imagine the fan uproar if King Green was given a title shot over Arman lol. This performance absolutely means nothing for Pereira, just a gimme defense. If he had beaten Ankalaev last night then yes he would've not only been fighter of the year, but would've cemented legendary status pretty much.
Khalil brought an absolute champion-level hustle to last night's fight.. like rory lawler 2 level of ride or die.
It wasn't a gimme defense man. Very much a feather in both of their caps.
People will remember this fight.

Virtually every single champ in [current year] treats being a champ like a social media clout race. Always posturing never fighting.
People should be respecting the hell out of the champs who put it on the line frequently because IT NEVER HAPPENS ANYMORE. seriously how the fuck can you hate this or last night's fight. Alex is a boon to the ufc in every single metric that matters.

Winner of Max Ilia is the only fighter who can make a case against him depending on their performance

I wouldnt let entertainment sway the decision, even though Max is as entertaining as Poatan but in a different way.

Poatan:
- Short notice striker in Hill (coming off of injury)
- Short notice Jiri rematch
- #8 Khalil Rountree

Max:
- #3 Gaethje up a weight class
- FW Champ Ilia Topuria

If Max beats Ilia, his two wins are much better than Poatan's.

If Max doesnt win, then Alex is fighter of the year for sure.

If any of the Champs got matched up with the #8 in the division (and was losing on the cards until the finish), there would be a gnashing and crying about how that Champ is cherry picking. It was a nice fight and Khalil showed a lot of heart, Poatan as always showed elite striking (his elite skill), but in terms of prestige, it was just a win against #8.

Most of these cats hate themselves, how can we expect them to appreciate anything at that point sir?

Yes, most title defenses of any champ 2024 and all finishes as well.

What has Ankalaev done in the past few years? Draw with Han, NC against Walker (should’ve been a DQ), and a win over Walker?

1-1-1 isn’t doing anything for anyone. That’s about as mediocre as it gets.
