Is Max Holloway embarrassed by BJ Penn?

This is the weirdest stereotype of all time.
Hawaiians are angry violent people.
Understandably, to be honest. Colonialism fucked them over big time. But man, locals/natives HATE Americans and aren't afraid to be real dickheads about.
Sorry fellas, but your tiny island paradise got rekt by American interests.

They are racist as F and it has nothing to do with colonialism, other Island people are the same.
If you're white and going to a local beach, prepare to get fucked up.
Let's say it like it is, not with euphemisms like "they hate Americans". They hate White people, Black people, etc.

Average day in Hawaii lol:

Prime BJ would have never lost to Porier, let alone twice.

Let’s see where Max is after another 15 years of fighting
That hasn’t been around since the days of Sean Sherk, Kenny Florian, Jens Pulver, and Joe Stevenson.

Those 4 chumps Max would have NO problems with at ANY point in their careers.

Max never seems to name drop BJ. It's curious because they're both from a small island where BJ is a local legend. I don't expect Max to badmouth BJ so it could be a situation where if you cant say anything good, don't say anything at all.

Max is probably embarrassed for Hawaii that BJ is/was the face of MMA for the island. That BJ is not repping Hawaii properly both in the cage and out.

Perhaps BJ is resentful that Max is now the best fighter from the island ever. Max may not have the same cult following but performance wise he has already surpassed BJ.

Yes, I saw the video of their joint interview. They were praising each other. I would not expect otherwise especially from a pre-champ Max who was all of 23 years old.
He talked about bj in the lead up to the frankie fight. How the loss to frankie still hurts all of hawaii.

Also you just made up this scenario out of thin air.

That guy probably doesn't even know a Hawai'ian. If uncle Cappy was there he'd slap that guy silly.

Thanks for the laugh. Holy shit. Almost spit coffee everywhere. Wow.

Good fucking God, the lack of respect for BJ on here nowadays.

Yes, nowadays he's a bum losing street fights, but that doesn't detract from what he achieved.
Yes, he carried on fighting long past his prime because he loves the sport resulting in a terrible record, but that doesn't detract from what he achieved.
Yes, he repeatedly fought out of his natural weight class fighting monsters like Rory, Fitch, GSP, Machida etc who are far bigger than him because he loves testing himself, but that doesn't detract from what he achieved.

If Max wasn't killing himself to make 145 then we'll see how good his record is by the end of his career, he's only gone up to 155 once & he got destroyed by Dustin. Whilst BJ who has fought at 145 was also able to win the titles at both 155 & 170, yet he's the bum?

I know most sports have fans who only care what you've achieved lately but I swear MMA fans are by far the worst for it.

Most guys from the Islands are laid back...and they mind their own biznits...

I didn’t look it up on the, I lived in Hawaii and took that same flight several times. I also know BJ traveled between them a lot. Honolulu airport was a pain in the ass but coming and going from the Hilo/Kona airports was almost no extra headache at all. In fact my wife did fly between the islands for work for a single days work and back pretty frequently

I like how much of the Hilo airport is literally outdoors. I've taken the flight from Hilo to Honolulu many times myself.

It's been a long while since I posted photos on it, but I trained at BJ's academy a little over a decade ago.

I would not describe going through security, taxing on a jet-way and flying in the air for 35 minutes similar to a bus ride. Penn and Max don't hang in the same circle, they are nearly a generation apart and I would bet money they never run into each other in years.

There is exactly nothing odd about Max not randomly, apropos of nothing bringing up BJ Penn. Years ago, when Penn was relevant in MMA, and Max was asked, he spoke highly of him.

I don't think Max has anything to do with BJ. I've never seen them together even in a photo.

I am French white and everybody has been super friendly with me mywife and my kids, even joined some locals on cool surf spots, I am not a good surfer by any means so It was just nice to let me join them give me some tips and share some beers afterwards.
Very good vibes in Hawai from my experience..

That was a past his prime BJ, even though he was still a very competent fighter. Diaz also had some of the best pressure in the history of MMA, and he still didn't finish BJ in under two. In fact, BJ actually won the first round.

BJ qas competitive too bad he didn’t have the cardio to fight a Diaz bro
Kind of BJ with a proper work ethic he would have been in the GOAT short list

Don Muraco is ashamed of both of these bums.

Plus, in all fairness to BJ, who has always had questionable cardio, Diaz has made harder workers and better endurance tested fighters wilt under his pressure. The list of fighters that could fight with Nick in a phone booth like BJ did and come out on top is a short list.
