Jones is somebody who came into MMA with only minimal college wrestling. He was not a Division One player or somebody of an Olympic caliber. He was not a primary striker who boxed or fought as a kickboxer. He had no traditional martial arts experienced nor a blackbelt in any grappling style. He never grappled in grappling competition.

Yet he came into MMA while outstriking primary strikers and tapping out BJJ blackbelts.

Yes his wrestling is what helped him control the pace of his matches but even against much higher caliber wrestlers he still was able to keep the fight on the feet and win or take it to the ground and get a submission win.

Is Jones the true epitome of somebody who is a great fighter because he knows what techniques to apply at the right time to win because he knows to train in perfecting these particular techniques instead of just being an expert in a certain martial art as a whole?
