Jon did well against dc who is an elite wrestler. This was preusada Jones though. He seems to have struggled in his later fights. Even against fighters who have fought at mw. DC was also fighting at lhw and likely not as good as he was at hw. Personally i think Jones struggles to take Gane down in the early rounds and loses on the feet. His path to victory is clinch Gane into gassing and secure some sort of late choke or something. Gane should take this via comfortable decision.

If he mixes it up right it could be.

If he tries to blast power doubles out in the open he will get stuffed, get tired and get hurt.

But Jon is very good in the clinch and has elite GnP and submissions if he can get it to the ground. I could see him utilizing trips, bodylock takedowns or catching a kick to get his opponent down and being highly effective on the ground once (/if) he gets there.

With the extra weight that Jones will be carrying, being older now, and being out for so long, it's hard for me to see his cardio holding up if he employs a wrestle heavy game plan imo, I could be wrong though.

At one point it was good enough. It's hard to say in his current form given his past couple of fights. If even a fraction of ghost of Jon shows up he can take him down

Jon has essentially been taking down middleweights his whole career. Added weight, age, ring rust, and much larger opponent, I don't see him having much success.
People like to point out that Francis took Gane down, yes he did. But even with added weight and size, I don't think Jones matched Ngannou's strength.

Honest prediction of the fight....

Cyril has early success and puts pressure on Jones, possibly rocks him. Jon does what Jon does and there's an eye poke that stops that action. Jones can't get Gane down, but keeps him bay with outstretched arms and kicks. Gane can't get a good offense going and tries leg kicks. Jones times the leg kicks to try and take Gane down but can't get him down, so they clinch up against the cage. Jones does something explosive the last 15-20 seconds of each round. Jones takes a lackluster decision victory.

That's what his success at HW hinges on, imo. He will still probably be hard to deal with standing even though his reach advantage won't be as great against some of these guys, but if his wrestling isn't effective like it was at LHW it is gonna be interesting. It's been the biggest question mark for me.
